I would like to start a window painting business in my small community. I have done some work in the past but would like some advise on the best paints, brushes and any other helpfull hints that you might have. Also how to charge for my work. I truly love to paint. I have done some signs and indoor murals and would really like to get serious in that area some day but for now, window advertising/art would be the best for me. Please share with me what you can. Thanks in a giant way!!!

Hi Tracy, I'm south of you a couple of hours and would love to help you get started.
I've been painting windows for 15 years and there are a few other splashers here as well.
You should get subscribed to Sign Builder Illustrated (it's free) I have an article in the June issue on how to get started. The upcoming Dec issue will have one on Christmas windows.

It is a very lucrative side of the business, but it does require considerable effort to get started. Got to have good knees, ladder skills and many other things you probably never dreamed of. It takes a consistent business approach and a definite firmess with pricing. Several things I might suggest is to get a good vehicle, good business cards and photos of your work examples. People do not buy this service from poor, transient fly-by-nighters, thus you have to come off as sharp and knowledgeble. You also need to know how to 'draw' and show convincing results. I have eleven years of doing this full time and am glad to share what I have learned. Three rules: no stress, have fun and make money! The rest comes naturally. Email me and I will share lots of tips! There is lots of room for competition and it only makes us splahers more creative. You will not find a kinder group.
