I currently use the Gerber GA program, I spoke with Gerber to upgrade the program and they tell me I will have to get the new Omega program, they no longer sell upgrades like shadow and currently are not testing the GA program with windows upgrades. I have looked at signlab and it appears to be a good program. Anyone use this program and have any pros and cons with it.Any replys about other programs will be appreciated.

I just bought a used Edge system and it came with
Graphix Advantage. As a current Signlab E6 and Vinylmaster Pro user, I can tell you Signlab is far better than the other two. Far more intuitive and quicker to get things done, from special effects,to layout and even vectorizing and preparing artwork for output to vinyl.

in my humble opinion...gerber GA is the last program i care to use....ive used most others flexi, casmate, signlab, inspire, sign wizard and i use corel everyday....and to spend money for a program.....that is less of a program then aboved mentioned ...is well a little crazy if ya ask me.
but i started with corel....

I own Omega and have to say it all over GA. There were a lot of bugs in the begining but I really don't have any problems with it now. I also have corel and will say it is much easier at coloring a drawing for presentation.

But for output to the Edge coloring in Omega is your best bet. Pretty much it depends on your hardware, Gerber is an Equipment compant and they make software to run thier machines.

And they run thier machines the best. but if you don't run Gerber equipment, then I will say there is probably better software out thier right now.

One final note, you still can't beat Gerber's quality of thier fonts. True type is made for printing not cutting. Much like Corel, it is a desktop publishing program not a sign program.

You would need to add tools like A-signs sells that will plug into Corel. I believe you could cut directly from Corel with thier add-on.

I have been a Gerber shop since day 1, I still have my old Sprint and S750. I run GA premier 6.0, I was wondering about the change a year ago to Omega, but read so many bad things about it that I stayed away. I bought a "cross-grade" from Signlab enabling me to keep my GA software, but buying their Colormaster 5 for a few hundred dollars more than Gerber wanted to upgrade, to what seemed to be a major headache for most. I use my GA daily still, and am getting into Signlab slowly...I think its great, I have recently got the Signlab E6 demo and loaded that, and like alot of there improvements, I will upgrade there too.

I think Gerber have lost alot of loyal customers of late....but then I feel Gerber attitudes have changed....perhaps more than Joseph Gerber would have liked. There are hundreds if not thousands of GA users still out there, and I think as they feel abandoned by Gerber, if not prepared to move to Omega, the more they will look to products like Signlab.

When Gerber has a rock solid program like GA that does work, and customers that have paid many thousand dollars to buy it, in the first place, feel dumped if there not prepared to change....it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I never thought I would buy anything else other than Gerber....but we run a Summa T750 plotter and recently have been looking at routers. I really like the Gerber Sabre series...but feel the MultiCamm is also great and cheaper, that coupled with Artcams 3D software, would be a great combo...check that out if your into 3D work

bob, i cut straight from corel no add-ons. as for what you said about fonts...SOME and i repeat some true type fonts are not cutable. depends on the manafuture of the font. as for cutting from corel, i also use adobe type 1 fonts, and they are great. also ive done comparisons prints from a sign cutting font to corel fonts and there is no differeance, you shouldnt belive all you hear! a 18" true type font(corel) looks just like a 18" font from the sign cutting program. and i paint so if its gona be a large font ....i aint doin it in vinyl.

Bob,

If you have a Gerber Edge, GA or Omega are the best way to 'drive' the Edge.

I use Flexi Pro, and it is an awesome program. The text editing is so easy. If you add, say, a shadow and then an outline to text, and then want to change the font, all you do is select the type, change it, and instantly the shadow and outline adjust to the new font.

I also have Omega, but find it cumbersome compared to Flexi. Flexi has the "feel" of other graphic design programs like Photoshop & Illustator. And if you need a great color RIP for digital printing, Flexi is hard to beat.

I find it easier, most of the time, to design in Flexi, and then export it to Omega to print on the Edge.

Good luck with your decision!

Stephen

ROUNDBIL,
I have been using Signlab since '92 and could find no better value for money than this great program.
It is bullet proof. I also use Corel as an intermediate prog between my 2 machines, both of which are at different locations.
I might also point out I have 4.95 at present and have no intention of upgrading.
