David, it's pretty hard to guess a price without more information. How big?, How High?, What kind of surface?, but to give you a rough idea, two of the local outdoor plants are furnishing the paint and paying $3.00 a square ft. for similar work on bulletins. That's a bit on the low side.

on repaints minimum..$4 a sq.ft. if you gota wash, scrape, sand, prime &seal or get on 8' ladder it worth $5-6. if you need to rent scafolding or lift then add it on according to what it will cost you.....at $3 a sq. ft. you may as well go to work at burger king...and the ones doin work for that and less...are the one that work for beer....

Good post, I have to get back to a customer today about repainting a wall at a car dealership....
Wall is aprox 15 ft high, flat paint on cinder block (not too rough) old lettering has faded a bit and he wants some of teh copy painted over and some replaced in a different area.
I'm still not sure what to charge on this..
Would it be safe to say 3.50 a square foot?

No sanding or scraping needed, just having to match original backround color and copy color.

Font is real straight helvetica, one color.

Oh, and Chrysler is picking up the tab.

Too cheap Adrienne. Joe's prices are more like the real world. The $3.00 I threw out there was just a reference to a company that furnishes the materials and subs out the labor on several boards at a time. $3.00 or even $3.50 is still pretty cheap.

Don't be fooled ... "repaint" jobs often take as long as new jobs !!!!!!

The only time yer going to save is marking out some of the lettering, but then you are going to have to cut the background in around them!

Matching and patching backgrounds is almost impossible due to fading etc.

Hard to equate prices but my walls start at $45/sqm ... that's about $4.50/sq. ft. USA ... but I usually try to estimate on a time basis. Plus paint and scaffold costs of course

i just finished doin a "repaint" of an existing sign. 3 ft x 24 x 2. quoted out the job at $720, which is 5 a sq. ft. and the guy also wants a wall painted that is 8ft x 15 ft...@ 5 s.f. that is $600...but since the guy is givin me both jobs...i did the $720 for $700 and the $600 for $500...makes him feel like he got a deal...and i get $1200 worth of paint work. outa that $1200 i might spend $200 in paint...and ill have paint for the next job.
the 3'x 24' had to be done off an 8' ladder but the 8' x 15' is ground level, hence the $100 discount.
my friend that paints with me, just finished 2 softdrink co. signs, repaints the signs 8'x 12' each, needed washed, scraped and some sanding, no priming and we got him $480 per sign...i went with him to bid the job.....and helped him get set up to paint them. but when i need a 2nd brush hes their for me.....
