Does anybody know if upgrading ram memory from EDO to SDRAM would improve performance of this BB & Netscape; etc.?

I'm getting really tired of these sporadic lockups I'm experiencing lately here on the BB & elsewhere in my internet travels. I'm wondering if maybe these newer programs would rather I use sdram chips in my computer. My motherboard accepts either. I currently have 96mb of edo memory. I can upgrade to 256mb of sdram by removing edo's & installing the faster sdrams in their own special slots.

Norton Diagnostics hasn't found anything wrong with my edo's. With the cost of 128mb sdrams being so cheap now I'm considering doing this. But are sdrams becoming obsolete? Are they so cheap because some newer / faster chip has been developed which I'm not aware of?

Are new computers still using sdrams? Should I install them in my 4 year old computer or should I be looking for a new cpu &/or motherboard?

Just wondering.

Would I install sdram in a 4yr old machine? Nope
With the price of mainboards and CPU's it's cheap to upgrade up to 1ghz and throw 256mb sdram in it.

Sdram is not going to dissapear soon. Especially considering that Intel released new chipsets allowing the P4 to work with cheap Sdram.

And for only slightly more you can use DDR sdram (Double Data Rate SDRAM). It increases performance over regular ram.

My recomendation: AMD Athlon 1gh (1000mhz) processor, DDR supported mainboard (Iwill, Epox, QDI) and 256mb DDR SDRam.

id be lookin at netscape...or your O/S...ram aint gona fix either of those...if you have had that h/d loaded for a year or more and have done a few installs and delets on it ..this will leave a lot of "orphaned files" but your o/s will still look for them and see what they are supposed to do....when the computer cant find something to do with the file...BINGO...lockup.....you can get norton or fix it and do a file review...but this dont always get the bad one...best to save all info you need off it..then wipe it, fdisk and reformat..and load only what you need...then you eliminate a lot of problems.
