I stopped by a new flea market that will open this week to ask about a stall. I then noticed 2 ladies applying 12" letters to the side of the building. I strolled up and introduced myself and asked if they were having fun. I noticed that they had top hinged the letters across the ribbed aluminum building and some were taped on the top rib and other in the flat. The ribs I'm speaking about are about 5/8 to 3/4 inch in height. So it would seem that they will soon be looking at a couple of different sized letters. I learned about "rise and run" doing construction. May be some folks don't know about calculating run to keep from coming up short.
I'll give the 3 factors I use most.
to calculate the run.
90 deg angle --- the run is 1 times the height of the rise. You will need to add 1 times the height to compensate for takeup of length.
45 deg angle --- the run is 1.5 times the height of the rise. you will have to add .5 times the height to compensate for take up of length.
22.5 deg angle --- the run is 2 times the height if the rise. You need to add .25 times the height of the rise to compensate for takeup of length.

The result is then added to the lenght(in this case the width of a letter. On the building I saw some of the letters crossed the rib so this would have to be done twice.
This may be a little had to visualize and the method I described is certainly not for millwrights, but it will provide a decent usable result.
