The top on my Gerber Sabre 404 needs to be redone.
Gerber wants $176 for the material and $230 for the two faced tape. Seems kinda high. Is the material just sintra or is it something special?
What about the tape? Anyone do this before and have any cautions or tips on how to do it?

Ron and I have already conversed, but for those that are following along at home...

You can use your preferred expanded PVC sheet stock, Sintra, Komatex, Intacel, etc. from your chosen vendor. The tape should be a high quality, thin, double sided tape with an aggressive adhesive. My personal preference is a 3M VHB tape.

Do yourself a favor (and save a lot of grief) and DO NOT REMOVE THE EXISTING TOP. Mill only to the bottom of the wide vacuum hole (or slightly below). Leave the rest there; apply your tape, then your new sacrificial material. Many shops have spent numerous hours completely removing their existing top. In most instances, this is not required. (Some don’t even mill to the base of the wide hole)

If you want to be creative and have some fun, cut your shop name, logo, or other shapes in dissimilar colors and “puzzle” your new top together. Care should be taken when doing this, as you may affect vacuum. For those that allow customers to view the machine, it adds a bit of extra interest, particularly for those that have seen similar machines elsewhere.
