We are installing cut aluminum letters on a building about 12 feet off the ground. The installation part is no problem, what we need is to unveil the letters at the Grand Opening. That's not too bad, until you realize that it has to be done by a 85 year old woman. While there are quite agile 85 yr.olds out there, this lady is pretty frail....

Any ideas on how an old woman can pull a cord, then have a 2' x 20' banner fall off and show the letters?

You could attatch the cord to younger individual who "acts" like a puppet and actually does the grunt work.

Just kidding...it was the first thing that popped into my mind. hehehe.

hey bruce,
maybe instead of banner material.
go to your local fabric store and get a lighter fabric, get your local awning company to sew it up and include rope stiched in top and bottom.

This is open to ones who werem't at Mark's Last Meet of the Millenium, by the way....

My first idea was the same as Linda's also, but what I'm wondering is how to fasten something up there that won't blow off too soon, and will not get snagged on the letters.

If it was something painted, it would be no problem, but the last thing we need is this old lady having a heart attack pulling on this rope trying to free it from the corner of a serif on the "K" in her late husband's middle initial...

Anybody else done this?

P.S. Hey Mark, did anyone ever paint over my cartoon of you?

Just an Idea... maybe a silly one at that.
Velcro strips in the corners and a few along the top ... then attach the cord to a top corner so when it's pulled the banner falls away from the letters.
Of course the day after you would have to go back and remove the hook/loop that is on the wall but it might work.

Unveiling ceremony the night before the grand opening. 85 yr. old woman flips the switch on a flood light.

Or pulleys & a double strand rope loop like a clothesline.

How about hiding letters with balloons & she releases balloons? Hows that for answering a question with a question?
