Yesterday I heard Colin Powell reject any notion of "negotiating" with the Taliban for Bin Laden. I think he's got the wrong idea. Hey, one of the things Binny hates about us is the idea that America "buys" what it wants in the world. In a way that's true. We financially support the folks who agree with us, and put sanctions against those we don't. One thing we've always pretty much believed is the old phrase "money talks".
So... we want the Taliban to turn over Bin Laden? All the saber-rattling and warlike rhetoric ain't gonna influence these boys. You are talking Afghans here, some of the toughest and nastiest hillbillys on earth, who tore up the Russian Army in the 80's and the Brits back in the 1800's, who've been bombed, gassed, starved, burned-out and f****d over to the point where they have nothing to lose. Going to war with them is going to be like shoveling flies across a room.
So let's think about this differently for a minute. We want Bin Laden and his boys REAL bad. What do Americans do when they want something REAL bad? Answer: We buy it.
Now there's a capitalistic solution if there ever was one. Buy the bastard. Offer Muhammed what's-his-name, the goofball-du-jour that runs Afghanistan, ten million in bullion, in a truck on the Khyber Pass, for Osama. Judas took thirty pieces of silver for Christ. Osama means at least as much to his followers. What better way to give the big Yankee middle finger to these bastards, than to use the very thing they resent the most - our economic power - to get what we want? Don't get into "negotiations", or get all teary eyed about democracy or human rights - they don't speak that language to begin with, and it's all pretty much lip service with us, anyway. Just put up the cash - dinero, ducats, moolah, the big green - and pay for him. I'd be willing to bet they'd sell - nobody really wants a wacko radical with devoted followers hanging around too long, 'cause you never know when he'll get a hair across his ass and turn on you. Besides, whatever we'd have to pay for him would be way cheaper than what we'd spend on a military solution ($2000 for a toilet seat? Anyone?) Let's be American, and buy American. FOR SALE: One pack of fundamentalist Islamic nutballs with a bad attitude. Who's going to bid?

You may have already heard. Clinton put a $5,000,000 bounty on Bin Laden back in 1998. So far, no takers. I didn't know about it until earlier this week. I wonder if anybody over there knows about it.

Interesting idea Cam. With all the money being spent on bailouts and other projects, a billion dollar bounty seems like a bargain. Maybe the first "bombs" dropped should be bounty flyers.

Money will not get anyone over there to give him up because they are a lot more afraid of Bin than us or anyone else on earth. How many of you would be willing to go one on one with the Devil? That's the way his countrymen think of him they fear him and for good reason. He is very dangerous. And the man is evil but not stupid, he rules by the fear others feel for him.

Bad idea folks. While the U.S. and other countries try to freeze his assets, why not offer his followers $16,000,000 to further their cause. Bin Ladin will be locked up and made a hero and we now have a bunch of unknown terrorist with the cash to fulfill their missions. Havin' fun, Checkers

Bin Laden is only a man. He has the resources and manpower to do some terrible things. If it were just him, one on one, any one of us could kick his a** to oblivion. The guy is 44 years old and looks like he is falling apart. No doubt he is a devil, but he still bleeds, and there are alot of soldiers of fortune out there with the meanness and resources to find him. The stakes are higher now. His life isnt worth a nickel. Here's a nickel.
