I have CorelDraw! 8 installed on my system and I am trying to learn all the features of the program.

One problem I am having is that most of the time the color pallete is all messed up. As in, all the color blocks have little "dots" in them, usually a shade or 2 off the color showing. Along with the colors not being right, i.e. if the pallete shows "red, lets say, when I click on it to place it in the drawing it may show up on screen as "green" or some other color.

This does not happen all the time, but about 95% of the time. I really do not want to uninstall it and then reload it. If that is what I must do then so be it.

BTW, I have my monitor set at 1152 x 864 and 256 colors, could this be a problem????

Troy Ole buddy...Try setting your color to at least 16 bit. 256 is not high enough to dispay the colors correctly. I have my color set to 32 bit.

Also try opening Corel draw with the f-8 key depressed until it loads. It will ask you if you want to revert to the original load and say yes. Sometimes for no apparent reason some code becomes corrupted and this feature is almost always a fix, other than having the right number of colors defaulted. Worst case, you might have to reload the whole enchillada from disk...
Good luck and if still bugged out, contact Corel by email. They are good about responding quickly, I have found and solving the dilemma.

Troy,

Do what Dave says, that's probably the problem. If you still have the problem after that, make sure that your colour settings aren't set up to highlight colours out of your devices gamut range. In Corel 9 it's in Tools->Options->Global->Color Management. Make sure "Highlight colors out of printer gamut" is unchecked.

Thanks All
I set my colors to 32 bit and that seems to solve the problem. Hopefully all my other programs will not be affected, at least in a negitive way.

I know my sign program is fine, hopefully my games will be too.

If that doesn't work you might need to get the latest driver for your video card. ATI video cards, if you have one, are famous for screwing up any way possible. If you have an ATI Rage, get the latest drivers or buy a new card.

From a techie: Change your monitor setting to at least 16 bit/16 million colors. You'll also find the web a bit friendlier if you do. All streaming media is set at a minimum of 16 million colors and most software developers starting assuming we would upgrade to at least that resolution in 1999. Changing your monitor settings will free up your system resources too.

Good Luck.

Christine
