Anybody use intermediate (cheap schtuff) on banners? How des it hold up?
I have always used high performance..I thought it to be a lot less brittle when cold.

Hi Micheal

Depends on the customer and what they are using it for. If they are calling for a quote, I quote based on 3 mil and less dense banner material and inform them of what they can expect.
If they are using it outside for any length of time outside I highly recommend two mil.

What type of 3mil are you using? Avery doesn't seem to be stiff or brittle. You might be getting old stuff from your supplier.

In any case a banner is a short term thing. The material expands and contracts like it is made of elastic and no matter the vinyl you will get problems. So we have switched to 3 mil. If they want something more durable and stable then I sell them that product.

hey hiram,

i have to agree with kevin here. pricing banners got goofy around here with some shops quoting poly banners for outdoor stuff. like those will last a while, huh? lol!

for tempoary display banners, we use the bandanna banner or u.s. banner material from garston. it works well for this type of banner.

the 3 mil vinyl works ok on short term stuff but we use 2 mill h.p. for anything with any expected lifetime.

hope this helps...

With the exception of a couple jobs, all of the banners that went out my door are temporary (less than a year)and don't warrant 2mil vinyl. One job is 3'x43' and has been up over 3 years and is fine. I haven't had a vinyl failure using calandered.
I have a double sided 4'x6' yellow banner in front of my shop (btwn 2 posts secured with bungees). Edge printed lettering on Oracal 651 applied to both sides. Its been up over a year and the only problem we've had was the snow plow guy knocking it down last winter.

Hi Michael,

My experience has been that intermediate vinyl will last every bit as long as the banner material that it is applied on. Unless there is something special, HP vinyl is a waste of money.
