I was talking with a Canadian via the net and she brought up some points i have never realized. I know alot of Letterheads are Canadian and thought i would ask here.
I wonder what your honest feelings about America, and Americans are. She felt as if we are a pushy, arrogant, and egomaniac society. That America is a bull and the rest of the world is a mouse. And we know it.
I have never thought like this, but wonder if it is because i am American. And cant see our country from afar.
I have always thought of Canadians as friendly neighbors, not that i was superior. I just wonder how the majority of Canadians view America. And how do Canadians feel we should handle the attack on Tuesday?
I'm not one to get involved in political debate but this issue is HUGE and since you asked I will share a thought or two.
I am still shocked at the terror wreaked on Tuesday. And I have no idea how to reply to that action. Something tells me that it is senseless to attack Afghanistan or wherever the ringleaders of this horror are presumed to be holed up. They have either vacated or are vacating their hiding spots and are probably moving all the time. I think the average citizens of many of those countries are terrorized enough by their own so-called governments not to mention their miserable economic plights.
I have an almost paranoid fear that many of the 'disciples' (for lack of a better word) of bin Laden and his ilk are already among us in North America and have been for some time waiting for cause, reason and opportunity to wreak more havok to our way of life.
Maybe we need to devote some of our creative brainthrust to developing a new way of dealing with an escalating terror that finds new creative ways of hurting us. I'll admit that all these people know is violence and can probably only be dealt with in a violent manner. Still I'm not sure the way to do it is by the conventional means wars have traditionally been fought. I think we need a new technique to selectively set these terror-mongers on their collective asses!
Ideas, anyone?

I cringe to even think it, but I wonder about recinding Ford's executive order banning assasinations. A Delta Force/Navy Seals/Green Beret kind of group with a "license to kill" who are authorized to take out terrorists with extreme predjudice.
Its probably a foolish idea on my part, but its a thought. Maybe I'm watching too many movies.

You asked for an honest answer so here goes. No offense meant in any way.
I have had the pleasure of working all many States through the years. I have also served many Americans in our businesses here as well.
Our American brothers and sisters aren't quite as reserved as Canadian folks. (generalization) They generally are pretty easy to pick out of a crowd of Canadians especially when they have drunk a little Canadian beer (higher alcohol content
Americans have a much louder sense of pride in their country, although I believe Canadians are no less proud of theirs, just quieter about it. I know some Canadian folks take offense to this.
Im my US travels, especially during the Gulf war, I was amazed how Americans showed their pride. Flags everywhere. Their hearts were on their sleeve.
Most Canadians can't even remember all the words to our national anthem, and very few own a Canadian flag. I wish that were different.
Most Americans know their place as one the world's leading nations and perhaps show it, especially when they are out of their own country.
But I as a Canadian I am glad to have America with all it's muscle as our closest ally. Keeps us from getting kicked around. )
I am also very proud to have many, many American friends.
The difference between a Canadian and an American is like the difference between someone from Florida and someone from Texas. You know what I mean. Both brothers and equal but...
My two cents as a well travelled Canadian.

Thanks for your reply Dan. No offence taken at all. I wonder if Canadians and other countries feel like American ideals are shoved down their throat, due to American television, radio, news, movies, products etc. being used abroad.
I must say it was incredible to see dozens of countries throughout the world singing our anthem and waving our flag! Lets us know there is much more good than evil in this world.
