Good to know that you have lots of work...now it's time to raise your prices! You'll make more profit and get rid of the "low margin" stuff...them maybe you can take some time off!

Apparently for me, a day off is every day of the week 'cept for Saturday and Sunday.
Got woke up at 8 this morning with someone bangin on my door wanting some graphics for a car show he's going to this afternoon..
When I get done with that I head out and use some of his cash for an early lunch..
Then I get home and there's a message on the recorder from Magic Powerboats/Sleek Craft, they need graphics for a new Cat' for a photoshoot by Tuesday morning (photoshoot is Tuesday afternoon). So I call in and naturally it's some poor new sales girl who was told (on a Saturday, no less) to line up a shop that can do the graphics with no notice.
I'da probably turned them down under noemal circumstances but:
1.) This boat is gonna be on the cover of HOTBOAT Magazine.. good chance for publicity there.
2.) I went in to the boat manufacturer to have the sales girl show me the boat and I was just all over the eyecandy.. the boat looked pretty good too!

Sundays are always my day off.Weather I need it or not!!!! Turns out,I get MORE work accomplished the rest of the week.I don't let my customers run my business.Over the years I have been able to maximize my working hours to a fine tuned machine.Oh Yeah and I don't let my customers run my business.Like Si says,Raise your prices, lower your working hours and you can make the same if not more!DON"T BE AFFRAID OF SAYING NO to people, and don't let your customers run your business. Hope this helps

I agree with Pat, as a Christian I believe that God created us to function according to His pattern laid down at creation, work for 6 days, the seventh day rest. I cease working every saturday, I take no calls, I do nothing sign related. My kids know that they can spend time with me on that day uninterrupted. I get time off for family, church, and just 'smelling the roses'. Customers who want me can come back Sunday or go elsewhere. There is for me a tremendous freedom in that. As Pat said, you will achieve more the rest of the week by having a day off. You don't have to be a Christian to enjoy God's Plan (but it helps) Anyway, after 20 years most of my customers know and don't bother me anymore.

Over the last 4 or 5 years, I've gone from working 70+ hours and working nearly every day to just working 4 1/2 days a week. I take Friday afternoons off. At the same time, I've slowly raised our prices to weed out most of the "shoppers" and concentrated on corporate customers.
While my gross sales have remained stagnant, I've been able to work with two fewer employees, "net" profit has gone from roughly 10% up to 30%, work fewer hours (45 to 50 hours per week) and enjoy doing the things I want to do.
