Bought new CNC Router. Trying to choose the right type of bits for my 1/2" porter cable router.
Whats been the favorite of choice for routing MDO Cut out shapes, acrylic 1/8" letters & HDU dimensional signage?
I checked out Onsrud.com
Any helful hints are appreciated..Thanks

Look in Signs of the Times or Sign Craft for
Hartlauer tools ...this guy knows more about
router bits than anyone I have ever talked
to...I'm sorry I have no suggestions for you
as I do all our routing by hand...someday tho
I'll be looking for bits for my comuterized
router...Just another goal!)

To expand on Hartlauer, his bit chart is laid out by type and thickness of material to be cut, so choosing bits is pretty simple. You are pretty much on your own with feed rates and plunge depths. Just keep a good notebook of what works so you can repeat your successes.

In six or seven years of routing, I have only come across one or two articles that were really helpful. Most of the stuff is either too basic or else written for a machine shop, ie too technical.

If you have a very specific routing question, ask it here, and someone will give you a good answer. Have fun! Vic G
