Does anyone have any information on cities having sign code officials (much like building inspectors)?
I am curious because too often permits, design review, inspections and enforcement pertaining to signs are swept under the rug bu people who do not understand how signs work successfully.

bill..put a 4' x 4' sign out in front of your house, about a foot or 2 off the edge of the road....and you find out if your town has a sign cop......hehehehehe or go to courthouse and ask for building inspection and they can steer you to sign code enforcement

In the small towns around me that task falls to the Code Enforcement Officer, and over the years I have gone round and round with all of them. I've found out that sometimes they just need a little education on signs and other times just needed it pointed out to them that they were being complete a..holes. Now I've formed a very good working relationship with all of them and with the push for stricter code enforcement lately this is a good position to be in. I know some people who would just install a sign and see if anyone shows up, I found it less of a hassle to read all the different codes and ask questions when I don't understand and argue if their interpretation of the code was not valid. Worked for me.

"Sign Code"? ..."Official"? thats an oxyMORON aint it?

Here they collect the money and enforce nothing but the things you get permits for.

In other words "out of towners' are not regulated...but if you belong to their club (licensed and bonded with them) they punish you unmercifully...why not the other guys?

"Because they have no bond for us to attach"
was the explanation I got... kinda Chicken-poopy don't ya think?
