I enjoyed seeing others work in Sign Craft this issue.....I noticed that there is not much talk here on the board about striping.I would love to see some of your stripes posted,or if there were any questions that perhaps I, or some other striper could answer that would be great!

Steve, you can see some of my stuff on my site. I don't have a way of posting anything right now, all the free sites are quitting. I'm basically an old sign dog that stripes to make ends meet. If you want to get some striping talk started on here, I'm all for it. I know for a fact that some of the top stripers in the country visit here, some are mighty quiet though Also an awful lot of the sign guys stripe too. I think if we took a head count of those that wet a sword the results would suprise a lot of folks. Hey Mayor Steve, I think I just found a poll for you. How many lettervile folks pinstripe? I'm looking forward to Duckie's, I got the feeling nothing is going to be safe from attack. See ya there.

Thanks George....I enjoyed your site.I was thinking of offering a page on my site for other stripers to display their work. What do you think? I've found that at least in my area that stripers have got a real problem with being able to feel comfortable around each other.I'm not quite sure why.
I went to Tony's panel jam in Phoenix, last spring(my first )and had a great time, but I have to tell you I was apprehensive to say the least. In fact I took so much abuse on the other boards that I posted that I wasn't going. Then several posted that I should come ,and they promised that I'd have a good time,so I did,and I made some good friends in the process.
If anybody would like to email me their pictures I'll put my son to work posting them....I recieved some pictures from Marco in Finland, they are great...one is of a guys head, where his hair cut is a flame job!

Steve, I think the "uncomfortable" problem with guys in the same area is pretty common. It's easy to be friendly with somebody you aren't in competition with. Even at letterhead meets everybody is friendly with one another except the handful of locals, you can here them talking about one another. Being able to share and see new designs has always been one of my problems. I'm stuck in a virtual wasteland here in Memphis where striping is just not big at all. There are all of two stripers here, me (and I'm basically a sign guy ) and one other guy. Never has been a big demand. Guys come and go all the time but always end up leaving because of lack of work. So I never get to see any new work up close. The other guy and I are friendly to a point, I guess we tolerate one another. His work is very distinctive and I don't borrw from him. The next closest striper is Harris in Nashville, who I do steal from a couple of guys over in E. Arkansas also stripe a little, but most of what I see comes from roaming truck stops where a lot of the work is pretty crummy. SignCraft has some good folks in it as well as AutoArt. The hunt for design ideas is never ending. Bring a sketch pad with you to Duckie's and we can share a few with some of the folks there.

Well ....I'm about to give my opinion on stripers and ....It's a real skill, there is no denying that! It takes so long to really get this skill down, that self worth is attached. What I mean is when a striper stripes....there is an infinite amount of people telling you that you are so talented. It's the oooohs and ahhhhs that take their toll.We can really loose the perspective,it's just a job, a means to provide for your family!
It's true there are several stripers that are incredible! But so what! It's just a job.If your ego is so attached to your job you have a real problem.....It means you think that you are superior to others....and that's nothing but CRAP! I posted this experience on the other board...I have a friend who is a delightful man,he is a sign artist/pinstriper he is buried with work constantly...but he is not THE BEST ...he does very nice work, and makes a great living. But when he goes to the local car shows he walks away depressed....He makes more money than the local talent ...but he feels bad about himself when he see's what the extreme talent is doing. What I say Is that every one has his own talent...his is business...just learn to love yourself!I don't want to preach but....the Bible says to Love your neighbor as your self! This man doesn't Love himself enough....The arrogant ones have found a false sense of Love, loving themselves too much!Really it's just a job!If you love it and you make a living off of it....your miles ahead of almost everyone.

I used to visit Florida every Oct, being into rods and doing alot of car shows here it was a good way for me to charge batteries ,id catch the old town show in Kissamee one weekend then on to south east nats in Tampa the next.
Each year I would chat to the stripers attending these shows and found that generally they were really nice people ,happy to share there experiences openly offering their portfolios sure there was the few who were insular and guarded though they were the ones who you could tell probably found it hard to sell themselves let alone their work
My wife and I have enjoyed the company of some warm people ,Bernie Molek if your reading this your one ,also Jake and Steve Cox who were sharing a easitup in Tampa one year -what a double act My general veiw of stripers ive met is they're what us cockneys call diamond gezzers
and its not true they only stripe cause they can't spell!
ps i'd share something on a page
Cheers Terry
