Please take time to check out the newest SignCraft issue. It's full of beautiful designs, new ideas("neon" incorporated into van graphics) and inspiration. Especially impressive is the profile of Alan Scott of Arizona; some of the most amazing designs I've seen.

Great article and the work is beautiful. This is really moving ahead. I was thinking of the use of LED strips while I was reading. I'm going to re-read it again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

That 'neon' tubing is really cool. I am going to check it out and find out the details.. Maybe use it on my new shop van, once i get it painted at the end of the month... and how to make a tape dispensor is really cool as well, very simple and cheap but effective..

i saw the "neon" van in signcraft today. before we all go ga ga... it was very very cool... you might want to check out the motor vehicle laws in your state.

here in new york, i was told that this would not be in compliance for on road use. i thought i would check with the d.m.v. office to make sure.

the state put the kibosh on the under chassis neon thing real quick. i was going to buy one of those light kits for my old van. boy, am i glad that i didn't one!

i have to say that i think the idea in the article are clever. looks neat. wish i could do it to my truck.

maybe i will just have to take a flyer and chance it... naaaaaa... dana would cut them off...

i meant the lights!

have a great one!

I know in Indiana you can not use any type of "Blue or Red" light, even neon, on vehicles. These colors are reserved for Emergency vehicles. They can be pink, yellow, purple or any other color.

I have not yet seen the mag, but years back, Bruce Suba in Santa Cruz, had neon wires from his distributor to the spark plugs and neon running around the perimeter of his lisence plates.

Yep you gotta check your local laws on the exterior lighting thing, but just because there's a law doesnt mean you cannot use it at all.

You can always install it, and if your state has laws against that kind of lighting on a moving vehicle, use it only when the vehicle is parked.

If you are doing signage on a vehicle, it can become very effective at night. The lights can be left on at night, with the vehicle parked in the lot, and the "neon" wont drain the battery because they draw such little current. A 9 volt battery can power 30 feet of that stuff for like 24 hours, there's no way it's gonna drain a car battery overnight.

I've used this stuff extensively in vehicles already, mostly for highlighting aspects of show quality car audio installations but have also "pinstriped" vehicles with it. It's really easy to work with, not to mention fun! The stuff I've worked with in the past had a flat shape with an adhesive on the back, like a roll of tape, that made sticking it to stuff really easy. Unfortunately at that time this stuff wasnt popular and I think the company folded.

Exactly what Mike said. I sell Streetglow products...In Ohio its all legal which is nice because i can cruise right across the state line and flick them on for shows over there but in Pa im SOL when it comes to cruising around with em on .... you can park with them on though. Its still an attention getter and anyone with mobile sign shops I would definately reccomend putting an under car kit on. They are GREAT attention getters.

Im recently working on a wooden rotozipped logo for the inside of the truck on the speaker box behind the seats. My logo will be outlined with purple and green el wire ... the lettering will be white/purple/yellow and Im putting a black light above the lettering. The vinyl glows its sooo cool. All in all i have 8 tubes (2 kits) underneath the truck (purple and green custom twisted) 10 strobes outside. 6 strobes inside. 3 blacklights inside and 4 6" purple/green neons. All of the lights go to the beat of the stereo in the truck using a musical interface.
