Hi Guys, I have just escaped being nailed on ebay.
I've been in the market for a canon XL1 digital video camera, I thought I would try ebay to get a good deal. I found the camera and started biding on it. soon I found myself biding against this other guy for it. the seller was from Romainia ( I Know, I Know ) and gave very little info about the camera. his profile said he was owned an electronics store there. so I hesitantly trusted the deal. anyway, today 30 hours before the auction was over ( I was high bidder ) I get this email from a guy telling me he's been burned by these guys before and I should beware. he said they would ask me to wire them the money and then I would end up getting nothing in return. and who will fly to romainia to fight this thing! so I bailed out on the auction and told the seller I was reporting him to ebay. I also thought it might have been the other bidder trying to get me to bail on the deal, and that may be true but I'm not going to take a chance with a couple thousand dollars. well, I emailed the other guy ( bidder ) and told him what I was told just in case he was legit. I will be smarter next time. just thought I'd let you know. I'm sure a lot of people have had great succes with ebay. I hope I have better luck! take care, Mike

I'm glad you had the good sense to smell a rat when you did.
About a year ago, I got burned on Ebay for $250 for Photoshop 5.5. I was foolish and naive enough to send the guy a money order. He didn't want checks, Pay Pal, or any other "safer" method. I never got the software, and he was banned from Ebay actually right before our transaction. But Ebay of course said it wasn't their fault for not informing me.
I have bought a few other items on other auction sites, primarily CNET's. but now I always use PayPal. If the other party is not signed up with PayPal, they don't get my business.

I live by the rule if I can't go & hold it in hand & purchase it & have a place of business (large franchise)so I may stand face to face with whom I purchased the product from..I DON'T BUY IT. IF ALL ELSE FAILS I'M WITHIN REACH OF THEIR NECK

Beware is a good idea but that doesn't mean don't use ebay. We just bought a really nice Sony Hi 8 Video Camcorder for a song. It works perfectly and came with all sorts of goodies. There are ways to protect yourself but nothing in life is 100%....except.....death and taxes.

I have bought many things on ebay. Always had a great experience, however you do have to be careful and do a little checking up on the seller. OF course there is always a chance of being ripped off.
just my 2 cents

It's good and bad... A few days ago, I bought a 1956 Rod and Custom Magazine for next to nothin'... I sold a set of lowering springs for my Camaro (that lowered it 2" too much) for about as much as paid for them.
I've also bid on stuff, only to find out that others are bidding on it to get the price up there for their "friends/sellers"...
Sometimes, people get crazy and just spend way too much on this stuff. Anything w/ Harley-Davidson is that way!!!
