One of the songs on Dave Draper's SongPainter CD is called Letterville Rocks Me. The song is written and performed by our own Joe Rees at Cape Craft Signs on Cape Cod.
Everytime I hear this song, my toe gets to tapping, and I start grinning like a fool. Could this be a Letterville anthem? I know it will have the same effect on most of you.
I know many of you are bringing guitars and other instruments to Pat King's Duck Soup Meet. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we could all learn Joe's song and perform it as a group? Bill Biggs on lead vocals of course.
Letterville Rocks Me is available for your listening pleasure at http://www.letterhead.com/lettervillerocks.html Over the next few days I hope to have the words and guitar chords available here. If we all wish real hard, Joe Rees may even show up here to help us master this tune.

Steve, gotta tell you ,that is super good stuff. I roller skated at the local rink up until a couple of years ago, and if you can picture this generic geriatric boogieing around the hardwood, well, I'd have been haveing more fun with this one than a body ought to be allowed.

Joe Rees You are not only a "Bad Ass Artist!" You are a "Bad Ass Song Writer, and Singer!" I hope you can make it to P-King Duck Soup Meet, I will be writing this one up for SBI. I think it would be great to include your song in my story. Come on down amigo, I think everyone would love to see you sing in person. Or we all can go to (where is it in Birmingham "5 Corners?") and get you on stage out there. Great song man!

I am impressed! When Draper started the CD I assumed it would be a "fun" project. I had no idea that it would be that serious. Yes, Letterville Rocks Me has my vote as the Letterville anthem. Not only is it well written but very well executed.

It needs something to take it home for the ending. Maybe the bass drum kick to show it the way. You drummers better work on that. Bass player should open the door for you. Then Bring your sweet luving, bring it on home...

Thanks Steve, The file down loaded quickly and is playing nicely. I had made a link to turn it on when I also turned on the BB backdoor. But this sounds much better. Nice song, it has my vote.

Aw geez guys, gush gush. You just couldn't wait for the Cd could you? Thanks for all the kind words. Glad you're diggin' it. I'll post the lyrics and chords below. Believe me, the quality on the CD is much higher than this streaming audio. On a large sound system it bumps - can you say subwoofer?
Sorry I won't be making Duck Soup. I'll be at Mass Mayhem next month for sure though. Enjoy the music.
Joe Rees has indeed rocked us with "Letterville Rocks Me", great work Joe!
We have been listening to this music for about 6 months now. Songpainter has 8 songs on the collection. David Grinley as well as my songs provide a great variety, a great tribute to the variety of musical abilities of the Musical Letterheads.
All the songs in this collection are, as Kathy Joiner pointed out, a "serious effort", and not a backyard party tape recording session.
As with any project, it takes a little time to prepare and to bake in the oven. There are more Musical Letterheads that could contribute, and maybe this preview will motivate them.
As for you new ones looking in, you are invited also. We require just a few things to include your contribution to the Songpainter collection:
1. You must be or have been part of the sign industry at one time. (this is a pretty broad area. So to qualify, you only needed to make a poster to stick in your car window that says "for sale by owner"
2. You must contribute an original song with a theme about "signs" "sign work", "sign people",
3. The song has to be recorded in such a way that it sounds "professionally recorded." Joe Rees was able to use his computer to make his recording of "Letterville Rocks Me"
4. Once we are ready to release the collection, you will need to sign a waiver that your contribution is indeed original and you take all responsibility of getting a registered copywrite on your music. You retain all rights to your music, however you do not get paid for your contribution and give up limited usage rights so the Letterhead Web Site can use this collection as a fund raiser.
Its not such a bad deal, as thousands of people will now get to hear your music, and you have something to pass along to future generations.
And, FYI, we sent a prototype demo CD to Jeff Wooten, the editor of Sign Builder Illustrated Magazine, and he like the CD so well he mentioned our efforts on page 10 of the August 2001 issue.
We have 8 songs, we need at least 12, so there is still time to get in on this. We really want this album out by the Holidays of 2001, so we will roll back the deadline one more time to October 15th.
Please let me know if you would like to contribute and if we can help you in any way.
Keep on Rocking! and Thanks!

I've finished retracking the original lyrics out of three other songs and replacing them with guitar lines. I'm ready to send a final CD to Dave or Pierre or whoever I'm sposta.
Coming at you are:
Sweep the Shop Letterville Rocks Me Writing on the Wall Sable Swing Kept On Trying Lay The Quill Softly 152 Blues
I mentioned in another post that my partner Dick Clark wanted to assist on the harmony vocals for 152 Blues. In the worst way I might add. I now know my dear partner has absolutely no voice at ALL! I never saw anybody choke up in front of a mic that way before. The sounds that came out of his neck were just amazing, like strangling a chicken. Now I love Dick, don't get me wrong. And his voice WILL appear on the 152 Blues. He'll be the one that sounds like a drunk Ted Kennedy. It's the kind of song that can get away with it. (you'll see). It has gotten me to thinking Dick deserves a special composition that could make full effect of his unique vocal structure. A parody of some type involving a thick New England brogue. Maybe for the next time around. This has been fun folks.

I assume that the slow rural internet speed here is what makes the sound track all chopped up. Is there a way of downloading it to my system so that I can hear it through in one piece?
Five minutes later....Just figured it out! I needed to let it play all the way through to save it.

just right click over the link, and choose "save target as". It will download it (and most anything besides .ram files, which are trigger files for streaming real audio files) to your hard drive.
