Brad..Corel has a CYMK pallete. Need to know what version of Corel to tell you how to "open" that pallete. But in any version click on the "paint can" button at the left, second from bottom. then click on the first button in the flyout. Click on "palletes and choose CYMK.

Thanks Dave, I have Coreldraw8. I think it is already in cmyk but want to make sure. The outline color dialog is set cmyk. Thanks for your help.

Hi there You have to be a bit careful if the colours are critical. For example, for most of the colour work we do the colours are spot colours selected off a pantone swatch (every offset printer will have one). Selecting off the screen or from an inkjet print out isn't fgood enough. Problems occur when these spot colours are converted in corel draw to cmyk for full colour printing. It is nowhere near accurate enough. You can verify this by selecting a range of spot colours, and individually convert to cmyk, then convert back to spot colours. You will usually get a completely different spot colour. What colour printers use for this is a cmyk chart. The colour is selected from the chart and the percentages of cmyk read off and entered as the colour. Kerry Wright Print Wright Australia

Brad, To begin with I'm am using Corel 9. For coloring anything, I have went to using the color docker (command at the right end of the fill flyout). I dock it permanently in the top right corner of the too bars and resize it down to where it is out of the way and I leave it there permanently (you can close it up there). If you leave it there on closing the program) it will always be there. It allows use of both cmyk or rgb coloring and allows you to choose choice of fill or outline right there. Saving you from having to go back to the pen flyout. You can also click on an item use the eyedropper, sample a cmyk, change to rgb, and apply color change right there. This color docker has saved me countless hours, and all color ranges are available at all times. There should be a command for converting all colors to RGB or CMYK, but if there was I think Dave would have found it. Jack

You really can not count on the colors being accurate at all unless you have spent some good money and time in a color calibration system since the colors you see are going to be much different than what comes back from the printer. Now that I am doing a lot of CMYK with our Durachrome I have bought the Pantone process guide. They also have a spot to process guide but with this you can find the color you like and simply plug in the values and you are guaranteed to get back what you expect. I have been using postcardpress.com for some time now (such sent in my 9th order) and they are great (wish we could get them involved here) the cards and postcards are superb quality and always timely. I have been offering full color cards to all of my customers and many are taking me up on the offer. If you have any more questions on setting it up feel free to give me a call.
