Hi guys, well I need your help again! I'm here in Winnipeg and need to buy some waterbase latex paint to do some murals, both inside and out. The problem i'm upagainst is everything is different as far as brand names etc. What I'm after is basically primary colours and a couple others but in a signwriters line, not some stuff i need to give 7 coats to cover. I've been given a name..Benjamin Moore paint but havent seen it yet and talking to the guy seems to be just house paint. Surely you signies up here use waterbase signwriting paints I just cant find a supplier..
Hope you can help!
Cheers

Hi Rod, If you are looking for something for both interior and exterior in basic colors, I think I'd try to find "Deka Sign Enamel". Gotta be somebody down there that handles that stuff.
1-shot also has a good heavy pigmented product in basic colors, they market as "Art and Sign Poster Colors" that would work for the indoor stuff, but it doesn't have an especially long exterior life.
A third choice is "Artistic Acrylic" which is made especially for murals and signs. The only source I'm familiar with is Dick Blick. 1-800-47-8192 www.dickblick.com

I was told Canadian paint had a "beer" base, so is it water based, or alcohol based?...............and what kind of a chaser do you clean brushes with?? heh

Hey Rod...welcome to Canada!!. I'd recommend you get down to Home Depot, and there in their paint dept. you'll find BEHR Acrylic Latex paints. They have a really nice pallatte of colours and cover quite nicely.Thet are NOT signwriter's type paints, but are exterior grade housepaints that have a really good durability warranty. I've used them for sign backgrounds with good results. They're available in either high gloss or satin finishes, and intermix really nicely. One thing though...as they cure, they do give off a faint Ammonia odor.
Avoid like the plague, any Pittsburgh Brand of Exterior latex paints. Had a really poor experience using those at the Walldog Jam in Cornwall. Some colours covered well, but the reds leave a whole lot to be desired in terms of coverage.
Hope this helps you out.

Some days you get to be the dog....other days, you get to be the fire hydrant.
You should be able to get deka sign enamel (water based) from EM Plastics in Winnipeg. Their number is 633-5516. Ask for Jim, and tell him Suelynn sent you. Hope this helps.
