As some of you know I have been getting things going on my first sandblasted sign. It is small (about 24"x12").
It's all masked and ready to blast. I thought I would be able to handle this with my gravity fed blaster and some playsand. NOPE! It will not bust through the paint and primer well enough for me to keep from totally ruining the sign.
Took it to the local monument place and he can't touch it for over a week. I've called every place around here from auto body shops to welders and can't find anyone to do it.
If you are within a decent travel distance and have the proper sandblast equipment could I come by? I'll even pay you some $$
I'm right off I-4 about 20 min SW of Daytona Beach & about 40 min NE of Orlando.
I was supposed to have this delivered Friday!!

Here are some other businesses you can look up in the yellow pages that depend on sandblasters, some may have their own equipment or know of another blaster:
Powder coating Auto body shops Heavy equipment Wrought iron lawn furniture Pool companies Restoration
Don't sweat it, after calling around you may even get a job out of it!
Good Luck, Cher.

Just a word of advice. Sometimes companies who blast other things besides signs.....will blast your letters right off! I learned the hard way. So make sure they know how to blast signs. Good luck

If this is the sign with the butterfly breaking the border, have you cut it to shape yet? If not, test blast a piece of the foam without paint, if your blaster will work, turn that puppy over and go at it...But don't paint it first!
Ahhh, maybe you've painted the back already...Ugh...in that case, just start over...hehe
Cher.

about 15 years ago I was a sandblaster at Kennedy Space Center. Some of the guys I used to work with are still out there in the Orlando area. I don't have their number, but you could look up Darell and/or Dave Heyne. Just tell 'em one of those Cajuns from Louisiana sent you. Good Luck!

Thanks for the heads up on your two friends. I actually found their numbers on Yahoo people search.
Cheryl L.,
Thanks for the heads up on places to try. And yep, It's already painted on the back!!
Cheryl N.,
I am just like you. Very leary of having someone else do the work and mess it up. That's why I was trying to do it myself. Once I sell a big dude sign I'll buy the compressor and pressure pot I need!
THE GOOD NEWS IS I GOT IT BLASTED!!
Spent a little extra time and used my gravity fed equipment. It's not perfect but not too bad. Used some chisels to carve out what I couldn't blast. I'm almost done!!

way to go! can't wait to see the finished sign! post pics soon. inquiring minds need to know!
monument makers are also good sources of sandblasting. we used one up here in the falls several times. we bought our own systems 3 years ago. we like the control that you have doing it yourself.
have a great one!

Amy - Just come on down anytime you want to get something blasted. My compressor is not really portable, but I'd be glad to help you out down here.
Probably take less time to drive here and back then all of the time spent with the pressure pot and re-chiseling.
Hope it turn out nice.
And don't forget to post a pic when you're done.
