"crank", Joey Madden has suffered two losses. A power surge has blown his computer and scanner and there are few $$s to replace anything, so he's gone for the forseeable future. BUT.....the worst part is that last night he was sitting on his porch with his beloved little Lhasa Apso, he went inside to answer the phone, came back and his little dog was gone. This morning a neighbor let him know that his little dog was on the roadside, dead.
I can tell you that his little dog was his closest companion, going literally everywhere with Joey. Bum deal........bad news.

I can't help him with the dog issue but I do have a used pIII 450 computer in my shop that is sitting idle.
All it needs is a new video card and a modem
Which I can get really inexpensive.
But it has a new case and power supply, a brand new Western Dig 10.2 gig hard drive, new 128 meg memory, ( i also have another 128 meg if he needs it) a sound blaster sound card.
I have no NEED for this machine, Have joey call me and we will discuss the details, I don't need a lot for this machine, and I might even consider a killer cart.

Ok. Here's the deal. If we can give Bob a few bucks for his setup he has sitting there, maybe the rest of us can pick up the modem and video card. Waddya think? Joey is so bummed by the loss of his little friend it's killing me. ........and I don't kill easy.

Ok, Mark has donated a modem (VERY graciously), we just need to cover the computer from Bob and find a video card. I'm in for $25.00 and I'll cover the shipping on my UPS account.

There wasn't any mention of a monitor, so I'm not sure if there is one or not. If there isn't let me know, I got a spare (not the greatest resolution, it's from my old system) but I can stuff it in a box and ship out.
P.S. Did he check with his homeowners? They may do something about the power surge or tell him to gripe at the electric company. ------------------ Chris King Paper Works & Graphix Indiana, PA

I know it is a month away, but why don't we set-up a box at the meet)Duck Soup), not just for Joey, but anyone who needs something.
If you have any old computer parts or anything else sitting around collecting dust, bring it and drop it in the box.
If someone needs it they can get it!!!

Ok, guys & gals. Mark has the shipping info for the modem. Cool move, mark. You're a true Letterhead. We'll all wait till Bob has the figures on the rest of the gear and then tap the till. Joey will DEFINITELY need a surge arrestor. I just spoke to Joey, he's absolutely blown away. He might even be NICE to us after all this.....BUT ....no promises! heh

Pierre, I have 2 video cards that need a home. One is a Diamond Speedstar A-50 with either 8 or 16 Mb, I forget which. The other is an NVidia Ge force2 with 64 Mb built in RAM. That one had incompatibility problems on my 'puter, so I reinstalled my Viper V-770. The Speedstar might be the way to go if the 'puter is an older one. Either way, I would contribute whichever one you think would work.

I'm at a total loss as far as computer stuff, but maybe I can help alittle with his dog...
This is something that we have at work that we hand out to the people that need it. Maybe you can print it off and give it to him.
RAINBOW BRIDGE Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Thanks for the quotation Dana. We had to put down our beloved Golden Retreiver Sandy last week. It's like losing your best friend in the world. Our other retreiver Jake has been taking it very hard, so we are getting a one year old on Sunday from our breeder/vet. We are very excited. Her name is Elsie.
Heartfelt thoughts go out to you Joey.

This is sweet, for thoz of us who were around during the help Sara feeasscal can surly relate to this call for kick down.....
It's to bad that fine person, was belittle out of this fine town... by well intended fine people...
And I am sure Joey is in apesheationn of the efforts of his Good Chum "no smiles"........and the well intended people of this site, who are always willing to kick in a word or to......
perhaps a fund could be made available to Mr. Madden so he might Borrow the Funds""" and pay a Resonable intterest rate to the site,,,,
where I can see it might be painfull to lose your computer,, and your dog....... I can't help but be reminded of a remark a Veternarian said to me.........Any dog flaten on a street IS the owners fault......Hummmmmmmmm....
and to further salt any thought of morrows,,,
Surge protecters are the first item of ANY computer system...... and are as cheep as 40.00 for one that will protect a ten story office building....
All Joey has to do is get along till OCT..... then it will be harvest time,,, and joe will be FINE,,,,,,
Joe''' That's how I see it,,,, get off your ass and make it happpen,,,,
Joe,,, sorry about the dog but fact is fact.... and unless the dog was kidnap and toss under a car........well you know,,, why beat a dead dog......
life has these facts we must face,,,, I have an Akita and german shepared I am breeding for guard dogs,,, I would be glad to speek with you on terms of purchase for one of these Hounds......NOT as a replacement,,, but rather a NEW addition to your life...

Hey Tbuk, some of your points are good except for one thing: Joey isn't asking or complaining about anything. Pierre is doing this for his friend, although I would hate to be him when Joey finds out. Nobody chased Sara out of here and she is still welcome anytime.

David, Agreed.. I find No referance to Joe, wiening, or complaining or other wise, in MY post or ""no smiles""... which puts me in wonderment of your reference,,, but that is not unusal of this site,,, or ANY site that has a BB,,, You see"" I believe you spoke, from your heart, and the illusion you WANT to feel....
Ane where it might be true NO one ask Sara to leave,,, WELL.... ever stop into a all black club... for a toss,,, try it some time and then answer your own statement.... Unwelcome comes in many forms,,,, and takes MANY faces,,,, truly the intentions of such distane outweigh the fact of ""we never ASK her to leave......

Fair enough Ted, there are ways to make others leave besides the obvious. I don't know all the conversations and arguments that went down in the past, so I will leave that alone. Say it as you see fit, I wouldn't respect nothing less. Pierre, sorry about the diversion.
