I'm touching up a couple colors on an exterior fiberglass dimensional sign. Won't take much paint since the sign is only about 3' big. Ordered a can of the Imitation Gold 191L one shot and it looks more like butterscotch. Not at all what I expected unless it dries a lot different that it looks in the can. They do have a metallic gold, but I don't want it to look like it has flakes in it. . .or has it got a smooth shiny gold finish?

Hi, Tony, Imitation gold dries to appear about the same as when it's in the can.I have used this often on old repainted fire trucks where the FDs didn't have the funds to make gold leaf an option. Metallic gold dries to a sort of dull or matte finish. It also does not have the durability of the imitation gold, and almost always requires two coats to get good coverage. Metallic also does not brush quite the same way as the non-metallics in that every stroke tends to leave a thin spot somewhere. Usually, the metallic doesn't require thinning, and it settles-out very quickly, requiring frequent stirring. You might get some degree of shine to it if you clear with frog juice or some other clear. It is not a good alternative to gold leaf. I know, I wandered away from the original question--- sorry.
