Bought a new external cd writer for my G3. Does okay writing, but when I write to a CDRW and then put the cd in the computer cdrom, it won't show up on screen. Pacific Digital says I need to update my cd driver to 5.0.1. Is that right! Any ideas?

I dont think that is strictly a "Mac Thing" The same thing happens with Windows boxes, some older cdroms just wont read CDRW's and some need to have the drivers updated. Have a look at the manufacturers site, if they have an updates driver for your cdrom you can probably get it happening. HTH, David

This is an external usb burner Dan. I think the problem is with the original cd that came in the 8500. CDRWs can't be read by some of the older cd roms if the files have been put on there in multisession. In the users guide for this particular one, it said if I upgrade my cd driver to 5.1 or above, it may straighten it up. Haven't been able to find the driver on apples site yet. I'm running OS 8.6, but the driver is only 1.1. For right now, I'll do like Pat, and use the writer to read them. Thanks for the help guys.
