I've received a request to gild a copper weathevane. Can I just size over the copper, or do I need to paint it first. And if I need to paint it, is there a process for painting copper, special primer, etc?

This is actually Judi not Kent. Refer to the book, page 117 on gilding metal objects. Basically, prime, size and gild as you would any metal surface.
