OUCH! When I added on a few feet to the front of my shop, I also put in a 14' OH door, that I love dearly (it's automatic open and has remote control). It cost as much for that door, as the shop cost to build in '85. I take very good care of my door... it's my window onto a wonderful world. LE

Remember If you don't have 13.11" in clearance IT AIN'T GOING TO MAKE IT! All Tractors stand 13.6" and some have a higher 5th wheel plate adding around 3-4 more inches to the trailer height. Sorry to hear about your day! Were you driving or the owner? And if you were, then I hope you have your Class #1 so your insurance company doesn't deny any claims.

About 20 years ago, my Dad took on a new customer. He needed to have his brand new delivery truck lettered. Well, my father got the body lettered and began work on the doors. It started to rain a bit, so my dad squeezed the truck part way into the shop through the overhead door. The entrance is on an incline. He hopped out of the truck and went to get his brushes. As he walked away, the truck began to roll backward. He thought he had left the truck parked in gear and failed to set the parking brake. And to make matters worse, the door was wide open.
Well, to make a long story short, my Dad called the new client.....
"Mr. Irhie, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that your truck is finished. The bad news is that I tore the door off your truck in the process.
Today, Mr. Ihrie is still one of our best customers.

You might want to borrow a trick I have seen at some of the larger home improvement stores. Hanging above their bay doors, several feet before the entranceway, are two large PVC pipes secured to the ceiling with chain.
In theory, you would hit the pipes, which then make a loud crashing noise, before hitting the door.
