Just want to offer my customers something more. Live in a small, remote town, so the Gerber would be pretty expensive considering our small population base... any less expensive alternatives?
It would also be handy in making smaller decals, that to produce in cut vinyl are a nitemare to weed!
p.s. I know very little about the different color/thermal processes...
I'd appreciate your input!

The Edge is the most versatile of all of the thermal printers, IMHO. But, its not the only choice.
If you don't have the market yet, my recommendation is not to buy anything. Instead, find someone who will wholesale to you. Then, when your market is large enough, you will have a better idea of equipment will best fit your needs. This could be anything from a Fargo to an Edge to a Maxx or a Durachrome.
And, while the cost of the equipment is important, how much money you can make with it is even more important. For example, I owned two ColorCamms. During the two years I had them, I never made enough to pay for either one. On the other hand, I spent nearly four times as much for a complete Edge system ($35k) and made enough profit to pay for it within six months.
Be smart and do some planning. Know what your costs are going to be and what you expect your returns need to be.
Go back and read Glenn T's comment. That pretty well sums it up. You can consider a used Edge and they can be found for 10k if you look around. If you are the only one in town who has one, you could own the town before too long.......
