My customer wants to replace some gold leaf lettering on a window I did about 8 years ago. Of course I don't want to do it the old fashioned way with water- size gilding since I barely remember what it's like to hand paint anymore. I'm thinking of going with the SignGold on the reverse side of the glass. I heard that there were problems with using black vinyl as an outline edge. Vinyl moves differently than gold and will wrinkle? Any way to avoid edge sealing the letters. Am I getting lazy or what?

use signgold glass gold, apply dry without the backing, then use rapid tac on the backing if you like, I usually just apply both dry, but we have a very humid climate here in Texas. Bill

Thanks Roger and Bill for your replies. A question for Bill - when you put the black backing over the sign gold (working in reverse on the back side of the glass), how do you see to line up the backing so that it covers the gold uniformly? Also, is there an air space between the gold leaf and the black vinyl backing due to the thickness of the gold film on the glass.

Jean, I've seen Cisco and I both plating with applying the black outline first. We then cut the gold a bit larger to overlap a bit onto the black. Positioning becomes less critical and the air space you mentioned becomes an edge that looks embossed.
