I am getting ready to fill a carved foamboard for the first time and I read a recent/yesterday message about getting it smooth enough for finish. As this sign will be gilded, I am needing the proceedure to get to that point. I have the carving sanded to 220 now but not the face of the flat sign, as I thought that it might to be left grainy for the first coat of filler. I have ordered Foam Board filler/primer in water based. up to point? Thanks for any insight here. Bronzeo.......

Hi, Jack........the filler you ordered should do it. I'm able to get a glass like finish using th PB filler.

Not necessary with Precision Board, Jack. It won't be appreciably smoother anyway. Just apply the filler coat and sand gently, not aggressively. Also, if you sand first, the dust tends to fill the pores. It's better that they're open when you apply the filler.
