I was just wondering how many of you are members of the NFIB National Federation of Independant Businesses. Is it worth it? What kind of benefits do you receive? Im looking for health care for myself without paying an arm and a leg..... are their plans good? Any info would be great.....
thanks, Ryan

Hahahahahaaaa....I wouldn't join ANY organization that would let a @^%#%*X& like me become a member!
Kidding aside...I used to belong, just for the health insurance...big mistake...after paying around $6000 a year for 16 years...when I had my hip replacement surgery, they only paid $8900 of the $30,000 !!!

I did belong for several years, but stopped four or five years ago. My wife and I had, and still have good health insurance by way of the hospital where both of us were employed for many years. The main reason for not staying with NFIB was that their lobbying efforts at the time were mostly aimed at the federal level, and not towards the local or state level. It was during this time that my biz took one h--- of a hit because of a new local land use ordinance which included some of the most restrictive language regarding signs anyone would ever want to deal with. Worse yet, the planning board and the zoning board of appeals were a real bunch of "Big Frog- Little Pond" types. They could talk a sign permit application to death without even breathing hard. One member was one of those who couldn't use one word if twelve would do. ( Guess I'm a little guilty of that, too.) Anyway, biz was so bad for a while there seemed no point in staying with NFIB.

I don't, but both of my kids have belonged to the MDITC for quite a few years. Great organization, and I concur with their doctrine.

Thanks for the heads up heads! I didn't really think this was a real good organization to belong to. Nothing they do really involves me? It would probably have been a wasted $150 bucks. I checked in on the health insurance package and it wasn't too much of a break.

Our shop doesn't belong, but my wife and her business does. I get their monthly news letter and such at home.
Bill is right. NFIB is aimed more at the Federal level. They are one of those "eeevilll" lobbying groups. Do they work to put a dime in my pocket? No. But, they do work to keep the politicians' hands out of my pockets and out of my business. I don't know if many of you are aware of some of the silly and expensive regulations the Feds have suggested for the work place (at all levels including the one-man shops). The NFIB worked to stop that kind of stuff.

This one calls for a bit of additional comment. Actually, I think NFIB is a very worthwhile organization, and what Glenn said about them helping to keep wayward, grasping political hands out of our wallets is true, as well as attempting to keep OSHA on a shorter leash. If there was a similar organization that could help keep the local nitwit political population in check, I'd be the first one in line to join complete with dues clutched in my hot little hand.
