I'm not knocking asking but: Have any of you noticed how many people ask for information that can be easily accessed by the SEARCH BUTTON on their PC or this BB. I mean mankind has the most powerful search & information device at their fingertips in the history of the world and it's gets more powerful everyday. But there are still a great deal of people who have a PC but do not use or do not know how to use it's awesome power. Or do they just prefer to interact with others? Or does it really matter? It's always good to ask if you don't know but a lot of the answers can also be found by using the PC. Hell really I'm bored today any comments? What is your view on this technology?

I do searches all the time but nothing beats the interaction of talking to people who have already been to where I am right now. And, if I hadn't done a search, I'd have never found the link that led me here:-)

A lot of times people are acting out of habit, but I believe a good deal of questions asked are because they value human interaction. I always wonder why people post questions in the trade magazines and wait months for answers when a simple post here will more than likely get your answer the same day.

Alan..I'm not sure if you are refering to the "search" feature on this particulaur Bullboard..But..I use it frequently. I have been kicking around this BB for several years and have heard the same questions asked over and over again. The questions are asked by folks who are new to either the internet or this particular Bullboard and they are asking the question because they need an answer and don't reaslise it has been asked many times before.
Probably the most common question that is asked over and over is about the ColorCamm series versus the Edge series of digital printers..
I don't think there is anything wrong with new folks asking the questions..I just sometimes point them to the "search" feature and let them sift through the dozens of posts with all the answers they need!

People ask the question here for the same reason you might ask a friend for a referral to a dentist or auto mechanic instead of going to the yellow pages. It's the convenience and the comfort level.
I use google a quite a bit, and my big beef is, you get 13,000 hits or none. The choice of search words is very important.
Here's a for instance (Off topic). My lovely bride wants me to find Texas style Big Red Soda on the web and buy her a case. Type big red pop into google and see what happens. Lots of hits but noplace to buy Big Red.
Most likely, someone in Texas will read this post and e-mail the name of a source.

Hey Dave, It's funny you mention the ColorCamm Vs/Edge that's the exact question that prompted me to write the post This is a question that has been asked & answered well to many times to count, but I'm sure a search would tell all. Everyone is right on the money I believe it's the human interaction that is the clincher.

what really frightens me is the fact...the youth of today have at their disposal one of the most information filled technologiclly advanced piece of equipment...ever made....and most of em are total IDIOTS....and cant tell you when geo washinton was president, when WW 2 took place, the 1st moon landing, who shot abraham lincoln......and a plethora of questions they havent a clue of the answers...to...but they expect to be paid for anything they do that might be considered "educational training"..so the will know how to do something besides play MORTAL COMBAT....

I couldn't agree with you more, Joe. Another thing I've noticed with todays youth and some other Idiots, is lack of proper punctuation and capitalization. Most noteworthy is the "three dots epidemic" where the undeducated types will never actually finish a complete thought, only to continually use periods to transition into other thoughts. Take for example the following "paragraph:"
"what really frightens me is the fact...the youth of today have at their disposal one of the most information filled technologiclly advanced piece of equipment...ever made....and most of em are total IDIOTS....and cant tell you when geo washinton was president, when WW 2 took place, the 1st moon landing, who shot abraham lincoln......and a plethora of questions they havent a clue of the answers...to...but they expect to be paid for anything they do that might be considered "educational training"..so the will know how to do something besides play MORTAL COMBAT.... "
This unfortunate young-person obviously has slipped through the cracks of society, and can no longer make a discernably intelligable sentence without the use of "the three dots." It's sad, really. In fact, as you may have noticed in the above paragraph, the dot structures are not limited to three, but in some cases may span four or even FIVE dots!!!
So please be aware of this epidemic, and educate your children about proper sentance structure. I feel that this is right up there with 'using the search feature' in terms of making our world a better place.

Actually, one of the (many) things that I appreciate about the folks on this board is their willingness to take the time to dialogue with ignoramuses like myself about all kinds of stuff, instead of just saying, "hey dummie, go search for it." I realize that it gets old answering the same questions over and over. I try and use the search when I can, but the truth is, it very rarely turns up the results I'm looking for. I guess the bottom line is that if you don't want to answer somebody's question, then don't. But at the same time, don't make them feel like dirt for asking.

and this type of reply makes you overtly inteligent? so you can type, so can i, but always have "respect" for other who post here. most of what i say here is rambling thinking and if i would take the time to properly compose the sentence structure, would that make you percieve me as more inteligent? well you approval is not somthing that i need to make me inteligent.(sarcasam) so now i can go back to my rambling thinking of an old man....just hope your mind is working as well as mine when you get in my age bracket....hehehehehehehehehehe and arent you also a "mac" man?

...An obvious counterfeit, NONE of the "three dots" sufferers use more than five consecutive dots, as they can't hold their concentration long enough to do so.
Joe, why do you have to constantly dis me? It's one thing to call somebody an idiot, but to put me in the same class as the macintosh users, that's just not cool, man.

I do love this BB, you can start a topic and never know where it will lead. Yes, it's definitely the human interaction that makes it work. Not only do you get an answer, you also get so much more. For the fun of it let me give it a try...,....,..... ! Hey that looks like Morse code well,if you would add a dash or two anyway. Hey! Bingo, it's the DASH that's makes this BB work, you get your answer plus a DASH and sometimes it must be taken with a grain of salt.

I prefer this board often times over the search engine. Human interaction yes, and secondly we have a great luxury in learning from each other's mistakes. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel every time you take on a new project. Especially when there are so many knowledgeable and experienced people here, that are kind enough to share those experiences.
You can waste a lot of time traveling a dead end road, when someone here can easily point you in the right direction. I don't think that's lazy, I think that's smart.
I only hope that from time to time, I can return the favor.

Yep Joey, Clearlake is an interesting place. But I'm enjoying it here alot. Actually, I'm enjoying watching the property value go up more than anything...and the vineyards are a nice new addition. There's lots of cool stuff happening here, maybe someday I'll get a place on the lake.

I am still in awe over this technology, even tho' I can barely recall the days when I thought those www. url's were all Greek. We've come a long way, baby. Searching the internet for info is one of my favorite pastimes, and like Sharon, how I found this BB. The only danger is in thinking the information you find is the only truth and it is for that reason I still prefer to do my research and then question the folks here for their opinions. I also enjoy the little forays off topic. I think it lets us get to know each other beyond the professional level.
