Look what Linotype has announced on their website today : a free font identificer through the web. Just imagine : you send a sample and it informs you about the font used ! It's not to early to test it and share our experience about this tool ! Linotype presents it as follow :
The Linotype Font Identifier uses an expert system to enable an untrained user to identify a typeface. With several thousand typefaces in common use, matching an existing sample or selecting an appropriate typeface for a piece of work can involve hours of trial and error, searching through type catalogues.
Now with the Linotype Font Identifier, finding a font is easy. The Linotype Font Identifier identifies a typeface by asking a series of simple questions, using an expert system that adapts its questions to find the answer in the shortest possible number of steps. For example it can identify a typical typeface, such as Palatino, in about ten questions.
Click on the new tab on the top navigation bar "Identifont" to test it.
