When running Cocut to cut AI files we randomly and unexpectedly find it is cutting each character TWICE (in place) on our Summa T1300. Anybody every have this happen? What solution fixed this? Thanks.

I used to use a bridge program before I knew how to cut direct. It would do the same thing when the object was getting a default outline assigned without me catching it. It's cutting the letter and the .001 outline.

I don't know what version of CoCut you have but I use the CoCutPro with Corel 10 and I do remember a similar situation. I zoomed in to see that the conversion to AI created an outline to an already made defined cut line. It's really a powerful, easy piece of software, but like everything else it can only do what we tell it to do. I also found great answers to CoCut related problem on CoCuts web site. If that won't work, contact Jim at Summa is one of this web sites advertisers and supporters. Good luck!

I use CoCut Pro with Corel 7 and a Summa D60. I have run into this problem in Corel and found that it was cutting twice because there was a duplicate on top of what I was cutting. It's happened more than once and every time it was the same thing. In my case, the problem was with the designer(me!).

I think this is a problem having to do with line-weights. Ergo, some programs define a hairline (1/5th point or 3 mil) with two separate vectors that are three-thousandths of an inch apart. Hence, when you bring in the EPS or AI file, you'll get what appear to be double lines (CASmate was notorious for writing EPS files in this way).
Another possibility is that your "Convert Pencil Thickness" option is enabled. In the case of a hairline (defualt CorelDRAW line wieght), it'll turn it into two vectors that are .003" inches apart. You'll only want to use Convert Pencil Thickness when you have a fat outline(s) that you want converted into cuttable vectors.
If neither of these are the culprit, something's amiss. Please call Graham or Allen at 800.527.1050 as they can help ... or me at x 106.

break everything apart before you convert to AI.

Wow! Great Responses! Thank you all. We'll zoom in and check for that second overlaying copy. Break apart also sounds like its worth a try, .Anything grouped might assume stroke or offset characteristics I'll let you know what we find. Thanks again.

This happens to me EVERY time I export a file from Signmate (FlexiSign) as an Illustrator file. I can zoom to max, over 5000% and view in artwork mode and it looks like a single object because they are directly on top of one another. The bottom layer has no stroke or fill so unless it is highlighted you don't see it. Every time I export from Signmate / Flexi I click on the color top layer, lock it, then marquee drag the object and delete the underlying extra object.
