Whenever pics or artwork is posted on this BB, I've noticed a difference or 2 "styles" of accomplishing this. As an illustration, there are currently 2 pics of murals for Vinton being displayed. Both come right up as you scroll down the topic, without having to click onto a "link".

Jon Peterman also has current pics posted, but with his, you have to click onto a "link" in order to view his photos.

So, what's the difference? How do you post pics or artwork DIRECTLY onto the BB. Is one method easier or faster, or more complicated to accomplish? Does one method take up more "space" than the other? Can someone explain the difference in non-geekspeak terms?

Thanks in advance for your attempt to educate this somewhat computer illiterate old brushslinger.

Hi Ken,

I think I can answer your question.

Depending on what UBB code you use on this bb, that will determine how the picture will be posted. I'll add spaces below so the links will work as an example.

To post a link, you simply enter the url where the picture is located...

http: etc.

To post the actual image, you need UBB codes surrounding the url.

[ i m g ] http: (etc.) [ / i m g ]

And the two variations make a difference for this bb. If everyone posted their images directly on this board, it would load alot slower, because the images are actually sitting on this site. I believe that's why Steve has a separate portfolio table.

When you simply use the url, the images aren't loaded here. Just the link is available to get to where the pictures are actually sitting.

I know this forum isn't intended for posting alot of pictures, however at times we all cheat because it's the most popular forum, and your post will get seen faster as a general rule.

Donna's got it, just remember she added spaces between letters so the "code" wouldnt get recognized by the BB.

Whever you are typing a message, there's a little link to the left of the text window that reads "UBB Code is ON".. click on that and it will take you to instructions on how to post links and embed images into your posts.

The main difference is when posting a link, the BB page loads faster because it doesnt have to load the images.

When an image is posted, it adds a little time to the page loading.. and if someone puts in an image that's a large size it takes even longer.. then if there's alot of people posting images in one topic, it takes REAL long to load..

Of course, loading time doesnt matter to those with high speed internet connections.. =)
