I talked to a friend in NY I she said Blue stinger is a sega game.
But I have another friend a couple streets down that says she got a "Help Me" email & got a virus that doesn't let her open anything after a day or so. I'm calling it quits today to "flush" my computer.

CAUTION: I did a virus check when Dave's "heads Up" appeared. Nothing was detected, but when I updated my dat files and did a SECOND check, the Norton Anti-Virus picked it up. Unless you have the MOST CURRENT dat files, your anti-virus program may wery well NOT DETECT this virus. Be extra careful folks.

Hey someone forward that bugger to me, I wanna check it out.
Couldnt dig up anything referring to "Blue Stinger" except for that SEGA video game..
Maybe that's just the message that comes through but the file is probably something else..
Anyway.. if ya see it in yer inbox, forward it to me. sales@stickerpimp.com
By the way, if you guys disable the Windows Scripting Host (under Windows Setup in Add/Remove Programs) you wont have to worry about the VBS style worms running themselves when you view those emails.
The scripting host is what VBS (Visual Basic Script) uses to execute, and unless you are a programmer you dont need it. The Host is always enabled by default.

Well, I got the e-mail, opened it, it was a joke. Now I did a Norton check, shows no virus. I just backed up all my files. Is this going to forward to everyone on my list? How do I get the latest anti-virus?
Glenn was right ...its the conversion thingy and not Blue Stinger....somebody told me that was the name.
a total of 7 sign people sent me the same e-mail today and I had to stupidly open one of them...McAfee said there was no virus detected.
Most of my programs are locked up and I could only get into the internet through a back door. The computer experts told me to unplug the CPU and bring it in and they will try to fix it.
Gonna be a while...see you all later.

Just one more downside to owning a Mac! Got that file from Wayne Webb and dammit, that file won't open on a mac at all, not even if I tried. They just don't spend alot of time writing virii for Macs.
Now, please excuse me while I go knock on wood.

Dave Glenn, LynnDee is at the shop today. She got 5 different versions of the e-mail this morning on the shop computer, it came from someone named Wanda Taylor and the message read exactly as Glenn quoted. I assumed it was from a fellow Letterhead and, like a dummy, I told her to open one of the attachments. SignWizard tried to open it but there was nothing there. I told LynnDee to reply to the e-mail to ask what help they needed. I believe it came back as undeliverable. I have Norton Antivirus 2001 on the shop computer and it usually stops them in their tracks.
I'm going to call LynnDee now and she will run the scan. Sorry folks.

Yes, I got it too - a few times. But beware, as the latest virus definition just came out July 18th. If you haven't updated your virus protection after July 18th, your virus program probably won't catch it. Update your virus protection! Bomba-Dear

Yep, Wanda Taylor is my wife and it came from our computer. Apparently, the virus is either sending out to the entire list of names on the address book or selecting names randomly.

i received e-mail from wanda taylor and dave draper, like a fool i opened dave's file and contracted the virus. i went to symantics website and downloaded the fix and whammo, it's fixed. i am sure it went through my address book and sent it to everyone on it.

It came to me twice today via Dave Draper, and some name I didn't recognize. I had Mcaffee, but went to Norton's site and used the fix-it tool to look for it, but none was found. I went out to buy the newest version of Norton this afternoon, but they were out. I'll get it though. WHewwwwww.......

LynnDee downloaded the update to my Norton program and it found and quarantined the virus. But She had to get my sister, next door, to download the fix and save it on a floppy because the computer locked up or something. They chucked in the floppy and it got rid of the contrary thing on the shop computer.
Since then, this computer has gotten two of the e-mails (still from Wanda Taylor).
NO MORE "ADVICE" TODAY

My Internet Service Provider virus scans things before they send it out. I got a note from them alerting me that a virus was sent and I can go to their web site to read it without downloading it if I choose. It came from Draper. Never got to my computer. Our ISP uses this thing called Postini....saved me many a time. Never got to find out if my virus software would catch it.

Well, I got home, updated my McAffee anti-virus and ran the program. The worm had infected over 100 different files. I followed the directions from McAffee and my computer couldn't find anything anywhere afterward. I had to use a boot disk to reinstall Windows ME onto the computer again.
The bad thing is that the computer was left on all day today and it is on a cable connection. There is no telling how many e-mails this computer has sent out today.
It took me 3 hours to get the computer back up and running again. I wish I had known about Symantic's fix program.
I'm a bit ticked off that McAffee didn't detect it. I had updated my DAT file just 3 weeks ago. Aurrggghhhh...

I got it from wayne today too, luckily I had read about it this morning and my norton update was flashing this morning to be updated. So I had the latest updates when I opened it, It quarantined it and then I ran the Norton fix. It came up empty.
So if anyone gets it from me let me know so I can rescan.

We got several copies of this virus today. Barb's Norton virus program caught them all. The laptop missed them even though I updated my virus definitions a week ago. After downloading and installing the latest update, the laptop caught them all too.
The lesson here is to check for new virus definitions more often. It seems they have no updates at least every week these days...sometimes even every couple days.

Wow......what was driving me nuts all week has probably saved me a lot of trouble!! My emails been out of service for the last 4 days and everything sent to me has been bounced back to the sender!! Like Rick said, I can go to my ISP's server to read my mail and I can remove it before it even leaves the server. Whew!!! A

I got the e-mail from Dave Draper, and seeing who it was from, I thought nothing about opening it. When I did I seen it was a joke list, some were funny. After reading I deleted it and then went in and took the trash out.
I came to the board and seen this thread so I ran VS, nothing, updated the VS, ran again, agian nothing, no problems running any program thus far.
I don't have any worries about sending it to other people, since my HD crash I have not replaced my address book as of yet.

I thought I was in the clear too, but then... trouble. No files would open but I was able to get on the web and get the fix. Strange thing was, it said the virus was not detected but now I'm OK, I hope. Everyone: KEEP YOUR VIRUS PROTECTION UPDATED. I will from now on.

From what I've gathered so far, the only people who have acknowledged receiving the virus from my computer have been sign people. Neither my mother, sister, nor any other relatives or friends have gotten it from us. Come to think of it, I haven't heard from any of my customers yet either.
