Some of ya'll may know I've got a consulting job in the works with my ex-employer's VP who went to work with a different company.

He's called me up to ask if I'd be interested in going back to St Louis for just a day or two and give them a crash course on Advanced 3D Modeling techniques in AutoCAD releases 14 and 2000.

We haven't gotten into details yet, he's been out of town at one of their jobs working out some bugs.

Anyways... I'm looking to make a 2 day total of around $2K..

I've never really done "consulting" work like this, usually I'm on the wrong side of the "INSULT-ant" so I'm not sure whether it's customary to get $$ in full up front, half up front and half via billing, or full amount via billing after the fact.

I know the guy pretty well, and the company is pretty large with a good deal of money, but I also know their industry pretty well after having worked in it for a long time so I know they like to play games with people they owe money to.

Any ideas? I'd like to get it all up front of course, hell before I even get on the plane!.. hehe.. but that's not always possible

Hey, Mike......we use a short form contract stating either an hourly, time-block or weekly fee. We outline our participation and usually collect at the end of the session or, once a week if it extends beyond that. All of this is based on your knowledge of the stability of the subject company and their track record. My .02 :^)
