Hi Heads!, Got a problem. I just sold a customer (vocal group hall of fame) on some sign gold for the glass entrance doors on the front of their building. This will be my first sign gold job. Im using the large egine turned gold leaf on the glass. Will this be sufficient enough to read on the glass or should i outline the gold in white so it shows up better? I'd post the logo on here but my photopoint account has been wiped? If you want to see the logo i'll email it to ya. The actual logo is gold and medium blue but i know the blue wont show up too well on the glass. I was thinking of using olympic blue and the gold but i was leary on that color combo.
Any ideas would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

Ryan, I always think of the glass itself as a black background, which it is when the lights aren't on.

I normally use black for an outline for any gold work. I have on occasion used deep blue or red, but black seems to be the most used. Why not do maybe one letter outlined in black and one outlined in white and see which one you think gives the best visability. I personally thing the white is going to overpower the gold. Just my two cents. Good luck!

If the logo is suppose to have a blue outline around it I would go ahead and do just that. I normally like my outlines to be a bit subtle to make the main color pop out a bit more. I think white would "cheapen" the look of the gold. I have outlined sign gold in black, maroon, dk green, dk blue etc... and they all have looked great! Another kind of neat thing to do is put the outline on the inside of the glass and the sign gold on the outside, it really gives it some depth.

Ryan. I would outline the lettering in white (VERY THIN OUTLINE), then outline the white and weld in a block shadow to THAT outline, in blue or black.

I think I'd leave the white out all together. Use a dark (navy) blue, or maroon, or deep green, etc. Even a thin white outline would probably make the lettering look muddled to the eyes. Me, I like just plain ol black.

Well gang, the customer decided they just want the gold. No other colors will be used. I didn't plan on using the white anyway, figured it would look to cheap. Anyways i charged 250.00 for 2 14"x16" logos including trip charge and install. Am I in the ballpark?
