HERE in town where I live, I have a new sign shop comming in. from what I could drum up about this guy, its a bar owner from a town 50 mile away, puting up the money, for his friend to start up!!The bulding he is renting is costing him $600.00 a month,+ gas & elec. So my point, is there is not 600.00 a months worth of work in this town. I work from my home and dont addvertise. but I have been around for 5 yrs. and I do electric sign also plus in winter I have to work for the school ( bus driver) so if you want to open a shop do the home work! see if there are any shops like me around!!our shop keeps busy but in no way could it suport a store front !ALL my work is referals!
I think the guy who is going to do the signs thinks there is a ton of work! because I have just went a bought a new truck and remod. my kitchen! and when things are slow and people ask hows biz I always tell them great busier that crap!

I started my little one-man business in Prescott, Arizona in 1978. The population was around 10,000. There was only one other shop here then...a full-service shop. Now there are 22 shops here....the population is 40,000. Since I first started, I've gone from strictly hand-painting....to computer....and now digital. I'm the ONLY shop here that does thermal transfer and/or inkjet. I'm still a one-man shop. I quit advertising in the phone book. I don't give prices over the phone. I charge something for EVERYTHING I do. I've NEVER been busier, or made so much money. The BOTTOM LINE is that no matter what the COMPETITION is doing, GIVE THE BEST SERVICE AND CHARGE FOR IT, and STAY ON TOP OF YOUR 'GAME'!
