been using rich art, it might be me but the stuff tends to cake up and make outlining diggicult. am i doing something wrong, or is there a better, smoother product i could be using??? and where can i get, and how much is it?? -john hayes

Don' know who you are, mon, but I always outline FIRST. That way you can double paint inside and outside if you want. And I use Plain ol' Tempera.

Try adding a couple of drops of Glycerin to your tempra colors...it's available in most drug stores. It'll make your colors run more freely...old showcard writers' trick.

Pierre, Respectfully, I have no idea who you are either. John works in my market and is my new competitor. I welcome him to this site and to my market as a direct competitor! He does fine work and is a decent guy. I respect his talent and determination to learn.
If we cannot, here at this site, welcome the new people and encourage them to ask questions, then what purpose does this site really serve? This is the one place where I have learned much, met many new people and have always been treated respectfully. Well, I do know who John is... and I encourage him to openly ask questions.
We are all only as good as our talent and expressing one's talent by questioning someone elses purpose in being here is not exactly the talent I have come to respect on the wonderful website. I still don't understand the idea of keeping (buying) two(2)sets of brushes to be cleaned taken care of,and used at different times for only one specific kind of lettering!Am I missing something here? I have always used oil paint with oil brushes all year long on every job with no problems for over 25 years.This INCLUDES wall lettering too!

Pat...out here on the Left Coast...we use tempra paint because it goes on a lot easier and quicker! Customers like it too...because it washes off when they want to change their "splashes"! If there is a possibility of rain damage, a quick coat of acrylic clear solves that problem!

Back when we actively did spashes, we DID outline first so that we could paint both inside and outside glass on a store. As the light changed from sunlight to "storelight", the colors stayed opaque on both sides.

Like Si said, here where we have drier weather most of us use waterbased paint for splashes, afterall a splash is just that... a temporary sign and needs to be easy to remove.
The brushes I use for splashing are very different from the ones I might use for One Shot. It's no big deal to keep a seperate set of tools for different jobs.

Not to start an argument here with ya Pat...but I remove with razor blades too...never a mess and comes off with very little effort (wet the window with a sponge or spray bottle of water)...I've never been able to easily clean off an enamal splash.
I think you are referring to tempera craft paints, which, especially if there is no latex base are a big mess to clean! I have a different method of painting.
I realize tho....that where you are a waterbased splash may have problems in the winter....with higher hmidity and rain storms. But I have painted in most conditions and havn't had much problem so far. Another point I would like to make as long as we are on the subject... As my shop vehicle is my Aerostar van I cannot take the fumes (however small) from enamals, that's why I have painted in WB for so long. Just different methods, conditions and preferances Pat...it's worked well for me.
