For those of you who "Fly" with the computer, (Shortreed, I know you got some experience!).
Our son just attended his first day of "Flight Academy", put on by the local airport, and the University of Oklahoma.
He's pumped, and so am I! Anyody out there have suggestions for software,and/or hardware for " computer flying"?

A subject dear to my beat-up old heart. Tho' I have never piloted in real life, I have had a lot of fun with MSCFS European version, and MSFS2000 Pro edition. MSCFS2 didn't load right in that the program couldn't find the font needed for labeling, everything came up as symbols. Apparently too many fonts in Windows. I expect to eventually sort that out. One of the fun deals was to cross load some of the combat planes to 2000 and fly off local fields. Have also added some of Abacus' add-ons to CFS1, and they work well. I was advised early-on that gaming on a "working" computer was risky business, but so far the only problems have been in the gaming side of the equation. Originally used Diamond Viper V770 video card, later switched to NVidia Ge force2 with 64 megs on-board memory. Viper was 32 meg, and I don't see a lot of difference between them. Do any of you in Letterville fly on your "working" 'puters, or do you have separate units?

Coop, I've got MS Flight Sim 95 just sittin' on the shelf, if you want to try it out let me know. I've currently got Janes WWII Fighters loaded on my laptop & have had a lot of fun with a P-38 (flyin' AND shootin' stuff is a great way to unwind ) The degree of realism in any of the sims is amazing. A friend who flys for American has been coaching my 13 year old nephew with MS Flight Sim 2000 and it's a blast. A joystick or yoke & pedal setup really adds to the illusion but isn't necessary just to get started.

Air Warrior III. Hands down winner. Really cheasy graphics, but playing on line with 100 other guys in the "arena" is a blast! Me and a buddy of mine would "wing" together all the time, to the point that we were a pretty unbeatable team. VERY addictive game, I gave it up over a year ago, after flying on-line for 3 years.
I'm still going through withdrawls....help...

Get that flight trianing permit and find a pilot that's willing to fly with a newbie! =)
I took the ground school just for kicks when I was in engineering school, got my permit and took a few flights but unfortunately air time is so expensive I never followed through to get the license.
