I've always found The Golden Mean Rule interesting and have applied it on plenty of layouts. The ancients knew of it and used it in their art and architecture. It has been used by who knows how many artists, artisans and craftspeople down the ages. Below are some sites with an introduction to the principal.

Another goodie from David - thanks. I am pretty much blind in the numbers dept. so I need the illustrations to make it plain enough for me. I have used the Fibonacci composition theory in the past (photography). Even successfully sometimes! If anyone applies it here I would love to see an example.
