OK..If I stay on-topic......will I get a response....hehehe...I got a call on Friday (a referal) for installing a large format graphic....approx 8'x12'.....on the bottom of this guy's pool......the graphic is on 3M controltac............wow....did it get me thinking........vinyl should stick to a vinyl pool liner....but....with all the chemicals in the water.....how do you prep...and again, with all the chemicals in the water...how long is this going to last?..OK, this fellow is serius, and I have to get back to him by Tuesday....I don't think it can be done....Obviously, he is going to drain the pool.......would Rapid Tac work ( I'm joking) on the more serious side of this...can it be done..I have never run into this for application, maybe someone out there has?............Ron

ron..My first impression was to ask..what is under the vinyl pool liner...any vinyl liner pools I have been in have sand as the base on which the liner rests...not a very smooth or regular surface. even with dry or wet application you'd get huge bubbles..and ya don't wanna be "prickin" the bubbles when it is on a vinyl liner at the bottom of a pool!!!!! Get a 3M tech support number and give them a call. I was having problems making VHB stick to something - they explained the problem and gave a solution - real experts.
Vinyl does not come off ocean racing boats. If you put the vinyl down and give it adequate dry time before refilling the pool, I don't see why this would be a problem. The vinyl and adhesive will hold unless there is major water intrusion from the back, ie the liner porous. You would not expect that. But don't take my word for it. Ask the experts. Vic G

I think I have mentioned this here before, we have a big "seed packaging company" in the midwest. Several years ago they contacted us, they wanted to know if they could put their co. logo in the bottom of the pool (large scale vinyl app.)on the Cruise ship they booked for a company vacation/getaway??
We told um to go for it(musta been a profitable year for them)when they got back they let us know how happy they were with the Rapid Tac application !!
Why would it be any different in a vinyl pool ??

Hey Ron, 3-m will give you the "automatic NO" on using Rapid Tac, the reason ? Because they don't make and sell it, however, the 3-m trouble shooters carry Rapid Tac with them just incase they can't figure things out any other way !!

About 4 years ago I put a large H/D logo on the bottom (actually on the slope going to the deep end}of a pool with a vinyl liner. It was a bit of a tough one to do but in the end it looked great. The sand bottom made it tough as far as to get a good squeegee motion but the palm of my hand worked pretty good. The logo looked good for about 2 years till the chlorine turned the orange really washed out and the black turned a geyish color. This was for a friend of mine big into these bikes, next year he is going to replace the liner and have me do it again! I'm going to check into some clearcoats as the time gets closer to see if maybe I can get a better life span out of it.
