Sorry if this has been covered before...

Has anyone had any expriences with those slitter devices for making smaller strips (stripes?) of vinyl? Are they pretty accurate?

Also, has anyone ever used them to slit sandblast stencil?

Thanks

Pat I have one of those slitters and find it very useful. It is accurate and although I have never used it to slit sandblast stencil I have used it to slit that VERY thick diamond patterned hi refrective stuff.

Pat, get a good one. Don't get caught up with the universal plastic slitter. The Ronan will give you excellent cuts, very accurate. Worth the price if you need to slit material for mobile work.

Hi Pat,
I have one from Universal. It cost nealy $200 when I bought it several years ago.I doesnt work too bad if you set it up properly .You must pull the vinyl thu it as evenly and more importantly,as straight as you can.The tool I have is for 15" material. You can make multiple slits with it.I found it seems to do ok down to about 1 "..no where near plotter accuracy, however. The guys in the local boat shop have one for 4" material. They buy striping in big lots, then slit it down for waterlines ,boot stripes and trim lines. That tool works pretty nice...more accurate than mine.
My old Aristo plotter has a button on the control keyboard that you press to slit.It was a nice feature.
I have also set up jobs to cut lines.
I create a line with 2 points, then copy it and mirror it vertically. This moves the start point of the copied line to the opposite end, thus saving excess travel of the material.plotter cuts a line from left to right, jumps the designated width, and returns right to left.Copy the 2 lines and stack as many as you need.
I would guess for sandblast resist,if you're gonna slice a whole sheet,it would be best to not cut all the way thru.Score it enough so you could pull it apart, but dont cut so deep it falls apart when slitting.
