I have recently installed Corel 8 on my windows 98 system..and when I try to configure my Scanner (Mustek 600CP)the system starts the Scanner, and about 1/3 of the way thru the scan, it LOCKS UP, and I have to reboot..What is wrong ???? I do not have any trouble with scanning in any other programs,, Flexi, Photo Shop etc. I have tried to configure the Scanner several times, with the same result !!!! The program will do a pre-scan ok , and when you ask it to scan ,then the problem begins, lock up , and the "end task" button sends you back to my desk top.

Hi Avril. I have a Mustek 600 III EP (almost twins)scanner and have used it with Corel 8, 9 and 10 on Win 95B, Win 98SE and now on Win 2000. Never had a problem with Win 95 . I had to download an updated driver for Win 98 and then again for Win 2000. I know that it seems everone says "get the latest driver" as a sort of "Fix-all" but it really does help. The latest drivers for your scanner are located at.
Hope this fixes your problem... Be sure to "uninstall" the current scanner driver before installing the new one.

Thanks Dave, for the quick response....I downloaded the new driver as suggested, went through the same procedure with the SAME results..it still will not scan...It pre scans but stops at about 10% of the scan and locks up !!! Any ideas ??????? Shep;

Avril...Something else I remember that I had to do...I had to configure my parallel port that the scanner was using to an ECP configuration in BIOS. I can't see that being a problem for you though if you can scan with Flexi and Photoshop. (might be worth looking at though) I know that Mustek specifically mentions that they recommend the ECP setting for the port. Other than that I have no more knowledge. Other than to say..scan with one of the other progs and import the scan into Corel.

It sounds to me that your problem lies within Corel's TWAIN driver. If your scanner scans in other programs, then its TWAIN Source driver should be AOK. To test this, try scanning into one of the other Corel 8 apps, such as CorelTRACE or PHOTO-PAINT.
If Corel 8 is the culprit, perhaps the latest Service Release (patch) from www. corel.com is the way to go.

Thanks Everyone.....The other corel programs does not work either....I can scan in other programs and import....(Some people does not know anything about Computers....I don't even SUSPECT it) ha ha I have just installed Corel 8 and I was trying to learn it. The reason I bought the darn thing in the first place was that with my current version of Flexi (Flexi Sign 5.8v1) I could not color scan !!!!!! Oh well so much for that.. Thanks again for the quick and helpful responses from everyone. Now it's back to the proverbial "Drawing Board". Shep'

i have a cannon scanner....and it comes with a scan program....i would imagine yours also has one....when you installed corel did you have the scanner softwear installed? i set up my h/d's and install scanner softwear before any programs. this way the next program thats installed uses the twain driver from the scanner. when i install corel and it asks for scanner, i just by pass it. when i need to scan i usually go to scanner softwear, save it, then take it into program that iam gona use it in.

If that doesn't work. You may want to whack and reinstall, or even better, get CorelDRAW 9, since the color scanning in 9 is waaaaaaay better than 8. You mentioned that you got Corel 8 because FlexiSIGN only has black and white scanning, which I assume you meant as it relates to "scan-to-vector" (aka tracing or vectorizing). Even when you get the scanning working in 8, I doubt you'll be satisfied with the CorelTRACE 8 vectorizing ability -- especially if you're accustomed to FlexiSIGN's vectorizing ability, albeit in a one-color world. CorelTRACE 9 on the other hand, is as good or better than FlexiSIGN thanks to the addition of "Trace by Advanced Outline."
Best Regards,
Jim

I find the scanner program that comes with your scanner is always best, then save a file whatever format you want it in and place in your other programs. I use ulead photoimpact on mine, save it as a bmp or tif or what ever, or just copy paste into corel saves having to set up half a dozen programs to use twain Bill
