We have a new puter, with Windows ME, and keep getting this bloody "update reminder" to "click here to set up automatic updates ta yer bloody computer" all the time. I don't think I want Microsoft inside my puter, do you???

anyone know of a way to keep this thing from asking?

and another, I have Corel 7, and there are times when I open Photo Paint and it finds "no fonts", and the top line of the standard window does not show up, so I have to reload the program to access Effects, etc.?????

Hi Bill!
(serious and softspoken)
First Congrats on makin' it to Australia! I was at Ron's 3.5 Mini Meet when you showed me all the pictures of where you were "going" ...and the glimer in your eyes spoke more than the smile that reached all the way up to them. You were going "home". Hope things are going wonderful for you and Annie!

(tone change... sarcastic dry wit- try to get into the mood shift here- it makes it easier to understand )

Second, when WinME sends up that nasty little message look for an option within the window that says "don't display this" (well, duh! But read on...) or something to that affect. It may be in the 2nd or 3rd window that pops up as you continuely tell it "No, or Remind me later" But it is in there somewhere. I'm running Win2K right now so I can't even do a search on the system for it here... otherwise I would.

Third, to run Corel 7 on Win ME go here: http://www.corel.com/support/downloads/index.htm it has all the Corel downloads for all the different versions and OS systems. (Hey they EVEN have Corel for Mac's now- Bah ha ha ha I don't know WHY that cracks me up! ) ANYway... they don't have it spelled out that any of the patches are for WinME, but if you load the Win NT patch that will most likely get you over the hump into WinME. Otherwise there's always that sale at TigerDirect... of course the shipping is gonna kill ya! LOL LOL

The wicked mad at PC's and not impressed with Mac's side of the Moon

....NOTHING makes me happy right now if it's a computer. Must be my magnetic personality. (ooohhhhohohoho!)

Hi Bill....I believe that your problem with Corel is what Joe said, that Win ME was not even thought about when Corel 7 was issued. I checked out the page that Steph mentioned and there is a "color profile" patch for Win NT4... BUT Win NT4 is NOT even closely related to Win ME. They are totally different tecnology and file system.

Corel has newsgroups where volunteer techs can answer questions about various and workarounds etc. There isn't a currently active newsgroup for Corel 7 specifically, but one of the "general" chat groups might help you out.

Thanks to The Moon, I no longer have the pop-up message. Gates has enough of my money, without having access to everything in my CPU!!!!!!!! there was an option to "update manually", I was soooo anxious to get rid of it, I clicked it away without taking note of what it read.

Corel 7 will be a continuing, but the same thing happens once in a blue moon on my own Win 98 system. I will check out the Corel Support pages Dave. Joe, I have Fontographer here on the ME system, and no problemo, even DrafixCAD. Don't use Corel enough to warent the price of upgrading to 10. You should see the prices of software here, ouch!!!!!

O.T.
And as for being here in Oz, wow. Is all I can say. Last Friday was my birthday, and Annie got me a helicopter ride over the Harbour, 61 digital images, and no processing fees... then lunch on the water near the monument to the first fleet landing spot. BTW, there were two Davidsons on the first boat landing, go figure.... So, now off to the Blue Mountains, a small village named Blackheath for a 4th of July wedding. So about 31 hours from now. Big smile here.

thanks for the replies....
Cheers,
JPBill
