I upgraded my puter to Win ME, and found that the driver for my cutter doesn't work with this version Windows, and Roland isn't going to upgrade their drivers.
Any ideas on what would be the best route to go ? I have heard that I can use the Winline Plus driver with Win ME, but I don't know anything about this program - ease of use, etc.
I have been cutting directly out of corel w/o a bridge program, so I really don't know anything about bridge programs. I don't know if Winline Plus acts more like a bridge or just a normal driver.
What do you guys think ?
Thanks

You have to download it. Then you have to run the .exe program. This will extract all the files. Then you run the install program. That will install the correct dirver. With Windows ME you can't install the printer driver in the usual manner using "start, settings, printers, add new printer" you must use the Roland install program.
Just to make sure that your cutter is supported, I just downloaded the driver file and extracted it. The "readme" file says that the PNC 1100 is supported.

Kind of interesting how this whole thing worked out.
Indeed, Roland's web site does show the pnc 1100 under Win ME drivers. However, when I downloaded it and installed it, it still wouldn't work.
Call Roland (????? have I lost my mind ?????) Explained the problem to them and they said it was no problem for WIN ME, and they would have to charge me $25 for a tech support call. No problem, I said, as long as it will work. They assured me it would.
So after they took my money, the tech guy called me back, and after I told HIM the problem, the first thing he said was, "Oh, that plotter won't work with WIN ME". Boy was I thrilled.
Eventually, he told me they had known of a FEW cases where they got it to work with WIN ME, so we gave it a try.
Interestly, he had me go back to the OLD driver on the web site, the one that says it is for WIN 95/98 -NOT the one for WIN ME. Go figure !!!! And then, we changed a printer setting in the BIOS on my puter and............ the Roland is humming along again, with, indeed, WIN ME !!!
Hey Joe, I heard it was you (not a shark) that bit that kid's arm off yesterday in Langdon Beach because the kid used WIN ME instead of WIN 98. Is that true ??????
When/where is the next letterhead meet in the Southeast ? (I hope it is not Langdon Beach.)

Yea, I like mine too. It's a nice little machine. One of these days I'm gonna have to look for another one, though - I bought the larger one thinking I would use it, and all I ever do is small stuff we do jerseys and stuff - not signs) - and I could put it in a more convenient spot if it was just a little bit shorter.
But it is a great machine, no doubt.

ps: Glad to hear it wasn't you who bit the kid.

key word here is UPGRADE...i did the same thing with my laptop...loaded win95B, then loaded all drivers and programs....then UPGRADED TO WIN 98A...this way it uses the drivers that were installed and unchanged by win 98A files...
