I have to attach some HDU letters to a wooden sign, which is already installed. What is the best way to attach them? The customer wants a standoff so that snow and rain will drain off. He doesn't want holes drilled into the sign, like you would do with studs. I am only providing the letters, customer is doing everything else. I had suggested brads and silcone sealant. They suggested, 1/4" HDU spacers, with longer brads and dabs of silcone sealant on each spacer. Thanks ahead for any advice.

I was going to suggest finish nails to hold them in place and epoxy to adhere them to the face, we have a sign done that way in the field, it's been there 3 years now and no problems.
That 1/4" spacer idea worries me, snow and ice can build up behind the letter, and if the ice expands could break the HDU letter. Plus you would only have adhesion where the spacer is reducing the amount of area for bonding.
Anyway, good luck

In most cases, I would recommend PVC Glue, (Gorilla Glue is one on them), on HDU pedistals. At least for the HDU to HDU. Don't overuse, as it swells like crazy and will create a mess. Then I believe silicone for the HDU to wood if it is already finished. Ample but sparingly to avoid a mess. Jack

Jack got it first. HDU spacers work very well, and we use PB240, which is designed specifically for HDU. Break the surface in the areas where you'll use the PB240 on the wood if it's painted. You can run a screw in from the backside through the spacer and into the copy if you like, but it's mot necessary.
