If you have used it,please give me your take on the bulletin paint made by one shot.Pros and cons for me to decide on very large mural 40'x140' would like to support the merchants that support this site!! Thanks in advance

I've used quite a bit of it on billboards. I find that it works best for large backgrounds, but not for lettering. Also, it has a tendency to oxidize faster that lettering enamel. Its good stuff if it used for it's intended purpose.

I have used hundreds of gallons of 1-Shot and Chromatic bulletin enamel on outdoor billboards. (Chromatic & 1-Shot are now the same company). You will find that it is very much like lettering enamel to work with, except that it is less expensive and not quite as opaque. Good choice for an outdoor mural. Use turpentine for thinner as it doesn't kill the luster like mineral spirits. Add boiled linseed oil if you need to slow down the drying. If you really want to slow the drying, use raw linseed oil. Use Smith's cream for blending colors. Penetrol will make brushing and paint flow a lot easier. Good luck on your project!

OK Thanks! NOW,how bout coverage etc.? This will be a "posterized"picture with LOTS of 12" lettering involved.Is the One Shot opaque enough for one coat coverage?

Pat,...It depends again on the colors you choose,most will get 350 to 400 sq ft per gallon as long as you have a good even primer coat.I usually try to figure around 300 sq ft just to be sure & have extra paint for touch-ups etc.It won't last forever but with normal maintenance it should give good service with regular repaints.

Pat, I use 1-shot Bull. for all my brackgrounds on MDO. I have only been in business for a year (come Sat. July 15th), but the shop I used to work at used them also, with real good results. I always double coat with a light sanding after the primer and in between coats. Never used it for mural work, but as with most things as you know, prep is the key to a successful finish.

Pat, The 1-Shot and Chromatic Bulletin Colors have a vehicle system very similar to that of the Lettering Enamels, but are formulated less expensive (less pigment). The major differnce between Chromatic and 1-Shot Bulletin Colors is all of the 1-Shot Bulletin Colors are lead-free, whereas some of the Chromatic colors still contain leaded pigments. You'll get better hiding from the leaded pigments, these colors include the reds, yellows, oranges, & greens. Both product lines are now manufactured by One Shot.

PKing; In the past I've used bulletin & lettering enamel 1:1 (half & half) This seems to cover better & last longer. Another thing that will make a sign last longer is to lay down a coat of 1-Shot Block out first. Not straight, mind you, but a very thin,"watered`down" aplication. The base coat gives the other coats something to "bite" to, & the colours are much brighter. Mixxing colours like 104-L and 102-L & 134-L will cover with "1-shot" (pardon the pun) For those of you who don't do numbers; 104-L=bright red, 102-L=fire red, and 134-L= chrome yellow.
I use the bulletin paints for backgrounds only, & I exclusivelly letter with 1-Shot.
