Hi Heads. Have any of you had any experience with any of these structures...good or bad? I am considering using something along this line to "standardize" the format for a Property Managerment Group here locally. They manage a number of apartment buildings, and are asking for ideas on smaller monument type signs at their entranceways.

We use Peachtree Foamcraft in Georgia, and we are very happy with the two signs which we have done. You can see one of them at boblovessigns.com When you get there go to the BEFORE AND AFTER tab and look at the Cinnabar sign. The old sign was some kind of soft wood that had totally deteriorated with age. As you will see, the new sign has a skirt. There are PVC pipes in the skirt. We just torched the old sign off at its mounting brackets. The new sign was lifted up and set down over what was left of the poles. There are several photos of Peachtree signs in one of the Signs of the Times issues around the end of the year. I use it for selling.
By the way, all the text is PVC which we router cut, painted, and installed on the sign after we received it from Peachtree. Vic G

Ken, there is a sign company in this area that has done what you are proposing, only they did it with sign foam. It looks like he takes two pieces of signfoam and puts them back to back to get thickness, and then the logo is overlaid on the top front (and back)for more dimensionality.
We are getting to be big fans of sign foam not only because it makes a nice sign, but because you can throw it in the router and let it fly with none of the hassle of sandblasting. You might consider this option also. Vic G

Ken, my first Peachtree Foamcraft base is being shipped tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll be attaching aluminum letters to it with an HDU logo.

Peachtree has a good product, I like the hard shell coating they use, but I'm building one myself soon like the one in the May 2001 Signs of the Times done by Erik Valentine. He wrote step by step article, although they edited out a lot of it. I can cut the foam myself or have it cut according to my file by a local company and I can coat it or have them do it. They use a 2lb styrofoam, denser than the stuff you typicaly think of as styrofoam. I'll see how this goes, I may end up prefering to use Peachtree next time by the time I'm finished. It's new territory for me, another product I can offer customers.

Peachtree Foamcraft gets three thumbs up. They ship when they say they will, their prices are reasonable and you get a good product. If you can draw it, they can build it.

Thanks for your replies, you've been very helpful. While investigating these types of pre-fab sign bases, I came upon another manufacturer who may also be of interest. Their site is at: www.howardindustries.com
Click onto the "new" stone designs tab, and they have a nice selection of scale elevations that you can download & use as templates.
Just sharing another possible resource that you may or may not find useful.

We've used several of these walls, they are terrific. A 5 foot by 11 foot wall a foot thick with sintra copy can be picked up over the installation poles by two men. They look great and are very durable and easy to paint and install. We get ours from AAA Architectural here locally. They are at buildingshapes.com There are several others in this area manufacturing these walls. We just draw a wireframe of the wall with dimensions and fax to them. They price it and construct it from this drawing. We have one in the shop right now waiting on color selection by the customer. This one will get 4'x7' sandblasted hdu panels on each side.
