Anyone using the Corel program that allows you to send files to be cut on the plotter? How is it?
I'm teaching myself Corel now for design. We've been using Flexi and just bought Corel. What an awsome program! I've got much to learn.
We went through a heck of a time with the Flexi beta program over the last couple of years. They are doing it again now. Just today, in the program we were trying to open a digital image (.jpg) and in the process it was locking up proceeding by closing down the program (unrecoverable error). Ai yai yai! One hour later, by an accident (accidentally hitting a key while we tried opening the file) it opened. Hooray!!
We like Corel Draw and Photopaint. We have Adobe Illustrator & Photo Shop but don't know much about it. We also just have Fire Works and Dream Weaver for this infamous web page we allegedly are going to make.

Well Dave and Diane.. There are two people you should get to know! Dave Grundy for the Corel. And good old St. Pete,(Don) for your Adobe program. Many others have the answers to but I find these two,Love to play (Tic Tac Toe)... Corel verses Adobe.... They are two top notch people in the help Mode! Boy are you two going to get some E-Mails!

Are you using a Roland plotter? If so, you don't need any extra software to make it cut from Corel or Illustrator.
Roland plotters can cut directly from Corel, Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand (plus other vector drawing programs). Very handy!
I have a Roland cutter and use it to cut from Corel and Illustrator so I don't know about those "bridge" programs, but I do know CorelDRAW, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver (plus many of the other major mainstream software titles on the market) like the back of my hand so if you need help feel free to ask!

Hi Dianne....Yep there are quite a few of us who cut to a Roland cutter directly from CorelDraw and I believe there are some who cut to Iolines.
If you have a Roland check out this link... http://www.letterhead.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004244.html It covers Corel 4, 8, and 9 to a Roland PNC 1000 and CM 24. I am going to updaye it to include Corel 10 on a Windows 2000 opreating system in the near future.
Like Mike and a lot of others here....Just ask, either here or via e-mail and we'll try our best to explain things in easy terms.

corel will cut to plotter...without any other help. what version corel do you have? 7,8,9,10 are good....hook up your plotter via printer port....wont work on com port...open corel select open....find template, the set up the corel page to same size as the plotter page. set line thinkness to smallest value(in corel 7 its .00005)and save as plotter. this way when you open corel you got your pallet. next you need to open file, select printer setup, open next window till you find plotter driver, then select it..go to printer properties and set up the roland plotter setup(youll need to d/l from www.rolanddga.com )once you set this up go back in to corel and set up the PAGE LAYOUT,select "set from pinter, then you have to go hit portrait...and it will turn page horizontal....then you will need to play around with this ...but its the basics...if you have a pen tip for your plotter use it and the back of a roll of vinyl.

The "program that cuts from Corel" of which you speak is called CoCut. Information on it and a downloadable demo can be found at http://www.cocut.com .
CoCut installs within CorelDRAW. So you can import files, design images, etc., in CorelDRAW. Then simply click on a button to bring up your "Cut" options window, which looks like this:
You'll see that CoCut adds every plotter control to CorelDRAW that you'd expect in the most expensive sign programs. It's a real nice way to work with CorelDRAW, which has made it far and away the best selling product of its kind.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions you may have.

I purchased Co-Cut Pro at a show last year with my Summa 24" cutter and they work seamlessly together. I already had Corel 9 and didn't want to spend tons of bucks on another program. It works quite easily and has a bunch of features that some of the expensive sign programs have at minimal cost.
I'm happy.

We have Corel 10. We just bought a huge 3" book that I plan on reading tonight - ha ha.
We have a Roland CM300 30" plotter. We just upgraded from our old 22" PNC 960. That baby did a great job. We upgraded for the sandblast mask and larger projects.
Thanks for all the great info.

Having been a Corel user since 1980...or before...you just can't beat it. It's always been a great program and I'm sure you'll love it. It will run some plotters and it does do almost everything you can imagine. Have fun....

Congrats on using Corel. I've been a user since 1990 and still love it. We're up to Corel 8 now having decided on skipping 9 and 10. It's the best graphics program on the market IMHO and it will output directly to some plotters. You don't need to buy "a cut" program if you have the plotter(s) that it supports already. Have fun.....

I purchased CoCut Pro when I got my Durachrome and Durasign cutter. At first I did not like like it at all but stuck with it since my lame FlexiPro (latest version) did not work as well with the new cutter. Now I love it, it is very easy and quick. I have always preffered to design in Corel so it works great.
